Rate a team in 2013: St Kilda

Ah, our old friends the Sainters.

Lost Goddard, their top players are nearing the end and arguably Lyon traded the future for a real shot at the flag (and almost got there). Couldn't get Brown from WCE to plug up their key defender holes.

They deservedly finished outside the eight in 2012 and at their best in 2013, IMO it's hard to see them finish higher.

If they have some key injuries, I can see them falling to bottom 6.
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

No chance of making the 8.

    Bottom 6 possible.

    Most likely around 10th/11th.

Reckon they're about one year behind us in a rebuild, and without the Father/Son, compensation picks and low finish to set themselves up. Can see them having a similar year to our 2012.

Must admit not a team I enjoy watching all the often so I'm a bit unsure about how to read their chances for 2013. That being said, Goddard is a big loss and most of their prime movers are on the decline. I'm not convinced they have a strong developing core of younger players to fill the void so hard to see them finishing above 10th.

Will be interesting to see how their coach attacks his second year in the job - mountain of work ahead for Watters.

Agree, reckon they're possibly 2 years behind us.
Best players are on the decline and just like us they've missed the boat.

I can't see anything to look forward to for St Kilda. They should drop away again this year to be bottom 6, but of even more concern for them is they still haven't lost the senior core of their team. I can see them hitting rock bottom in 2 years and remaining there for quite some time.

They followed a similar path to us in 2008-2011, topping the list up with mature players and drafting with no real strategy, but unlike us who's senior players have since retired and forced a rebuild, their senior players are still keeping the team competitive, effectively dragging out the pain.

Their list is looking like ours did recently, being heavy on experience and talent in their +28 year olds, but lacking any real game changing talent in the 30-90 game range (players such as Wilks, Geary, Armitage, McEvoy & Roberton)

Not great for them that Daniel markworth will miss out on another opportunity to gain experience at senior level.

The disasterous drafts of 2008-2010 haven't helped.

Happy to wach them suffer over the next 5-10 years! They are behind in there rebuild and will struggle this year even though they have a fairly soft draw.. I am predicting 11th - 12th this year but t be copetetive in a few games with a few upsets early on due to the class of the senior players they still have on teh list keeping them in it... Late year fade out. Bottom 2 in 2014 - 2015

Under Lyon, the most boring team to watch in the comp. They deserve to be punished with some low ladder finishes for inflicting years of low scoring defensive scrums of games onto AFL fans.
