Get Ready for Sunday night matches - 7.40pm

Footy on Sunday nights set for Seven

I bet we cop a few.

Round 16 - mark it down for a twilight match in Geelong.

The AFL is killing the brand.

Sunday 7:40pm. What a even more shocking time than 4:40pm on Sunday. Will be bad for people who want to see their team play and live far away. It's rumoured Collingwood, North Melbourne and West Coast will be involved. AFL needs to put fans first before TV ratings for a change.

Apparently it will be at the 7:40pm timeslot only for 3 times in the 2014 season but still it is ridiculous. What's next the overnight AFL match starting from 1am in the morning!

Fans are the ones that produce the TV ratings.
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Is a Sunday night time slot common in American sports?

As a mainly TV viewer I like it.

I wouldn't be attending a 7.40pm Sunday game and would then watch it on the TV.
I know I'm different to most regarding Sunday games but I don't mind the 4.40pm timeslot because I still get home at a reasonable hour but I understand it's not a great one if you are taking children to games.

I get that the AFL feel the need to expanding the games over all available times but this one doesn't appear to be about the fans and it's more about keeping TV rights strong.

7:40pm will mean 5,000 pax crowds in my opinion. Very. Poor. Form...

Well it is certainly ratings driven and that is a more important source of revenue than crowds.

Is actually an ideal timeslot for TV but they are still likely to want big games. For TV it could be as important as Friday games.

I guess the fans will need to adjust.

Sunday night football is a big game in the NFL, it's a showpiece as it isn't clashing with any other games at that time.

I think a Sunday night game has the potential to rate higher than any other (bar Fridays) over a weekend.

I understand what they are trying to do. I don't mind it as long as they share it across the board. I can see us getting a lot of that time slot.

I don't mind it, heck I go to 7:30 soccer matches on a Tuesday so I can't see it having a massive impact.

Sunday night TV is garbage in my opinion. I often work on Sundays so don't mind the thought of coming home to watch a game. A good way to end the week.
