Just confirmed on the news the AFL's offer for Hird to present the Norm Smith at this year's GF.
And hardly surprising, the narcissist has apparently accepted the offer.
Apparently this is part of some 'tradition' that the AFL has concocted, where Shannon Grant being the '99 winner handed JJ the award in 2016. So apparently it follows that Hird now has the privilege this year.
I had to check myself for a second that it wasn't April 1st.
Kind of akin to the TDF bringing back Lance Armstrong to present Chris Froome as winner of the general classification.

Ah yes, that makes perfect sense. That's why Andrew Macleod presented the two previous medals.
Wait, wut?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Imagine if Paddy Ryder wins the Norm Smith this season, he may just refuse to get up there.

Another example of the AFL (and most Australian sporting bodies tbf) completely misreading what their crowds want and arrogantly putting in something that suits their agenda best.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

If the AFL think the majority of fans are ready to forgive and forget, they are in for an unpleasant surprise.

Wouldn't it be amazing if the whole crowd got up and turned their back to the ceremony? Pity the poor NS winner though.
An absolute joke. In who's freakin' universe would this be considered a good idea? Like, really?!?
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell
Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath
And we all found heaven - 2016 Premiers!

All we really need is for the crowd to simply refuse to applaud the announcement(or boo it) of James Hird coming onto the dais to make the presentation.
This would still allow applause for the medal winner.

I feel bad for whoever wins the NS. It's going to be really unpleasant for them. The Players' association should be arking up about this.

I think it'll be a chorus of boos transitioning into cheers as the winner is announced. Very similar to the Travis Clokes goal against Collingwood except all the noise will be from one group of fans.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

How utterly stupefying.
While they're at it they may as well appoint Jobe to award this year's Brownlow.

Now that's good thinking. They could get shoeless Joe and Arnold Rothstein to award a prize to the player who tries hardest or makes the best effort in the World's Series while they are at it. The fact that neither are still alive isn't the biggest problem I can see with a plan like that.

The AFL doesn't have a culture issue according to Gil........
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-new...14-gxb8aj.html
I would suggest this, along with the Fahour case in addition to the detailed issues within the link suggest Gil has his head fairly and squarely up his own arse.
The AFL is completely out of touch, and once again, lucky their natural competitor codes lack organisation and the significant goodwill of the public the AFL enjoys. If it was any other way, in any other country they'd have been devoured a long time ago.
Nobody's looking for a puppeteer in today's wintry economic climate.

Wayne Carey and Jake King as Cup Ambassadors and Ben Cousins to present the Cup - AFL might as well go the whole hog.

Agreed. It's been a poor couple of weeks for City Hall. Gil lacks the bare faced audacity that Andy D. had. It's like watching a kid trying to master a trick he saw a magician do and get it wrong time after time.
