Ian Collins predicted Port Adelaide would go broke in three years under Adelaide Oval deal

    http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-new...710-zt3a3.html

Former Etihad Stadium boss Ian Collins advised Port Adelaide against signing the contentious Adelaide Oval agreement, warning chairman David Koch that the club would be broke within three seasons under the deal it was being offered.

Collins' 20-page review, commissioned by Koch and delivered to the club last year, predicted a number of pitfalls in the agreement, which have since become reality and will be debated at next week's review of the Adelaide Oval contract to be chaired by AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan.

Will be very sad if Port go through a successful cycle and be none the better for it financially. This is the sort of thing that disillusions all AFL fans. Lack of fairness.

Sounds an awful lot like the lemon that was sold to the Etihad tenants back in 1999. Was going to be the dawn of a new era - didn't pan out that way.

As you say Sedat it is amazing that the same mistakes are being made again.

Why the AFL let the Adelaide clubs sign off on it is stagering.

I guess that prick would know what he's talking about when it comes to unfair stadium deals.

So Vlad could proudly proclaim just what a wonderful deal he was able to negotiate on his valedictory lap, you know to bring out some good news amidst the doping scandal, the tanking scandal, the salary cap scandal, etc... One thing that the AFL are extraordinarily good at is tooting their own horns - my God, I've never know an organisation give themselves as many pats on their own back as this mob. Unfortunately there usually fine print in every deal negotiated by the AFL that has screwed their own constituents time and time again. They are an appallingly run business and are amateur negotiators.

At the end of the day Port and us are stupid for signing agreements that have no financial benefit. We only have our selves to blame as does Port

Correct. The AFL's negotiating position was completely screwed once it fixtured the 2014 season with each of the Adelaide clubs playing at the Adelaide Oval. Could you imagine, if you were on the stadium team's side doing anything other than holding out until the 11th hour? How in *!*!*!*!ing God's name, could an executive leave it until the death to actually get a deal of this nature over the line? It beggars belief.

The AFL wants to grow its brand, fair enough, but I really struggle with the constant stuff-ups by management in pretty much every decision they make to do that. We love a small town hick game, we do.

BAD, I'm pretty sure you know just as well as I do that when your options are dictated to you by head office you're just as eff'd as the next negotiator.

The AFL's record on stadium management is absolutely appalling.

We had no say in the deal with Etihad , we had no ground at all.
They had us wherever they wanted us and the AFL shouldn't have turfed to whitten oval until a deal was done so we had a ground to bargain with.
    Bring back the biff
