Hopefully now that it's out there a competent journalist will say "that does look a bit sus" and start chipping away. There's a huge story just sitting there for a proper journalist who doesn't rely on their AFL accreditation to make a living to flush out. The ABC is starting up a brand spanking new investigative journalism unit to replace Lateline. I'm sure it'd love an AFL head hanging from the wall as the trophy from its first story. I don't think Barret has the chops to get anywhere past the headline aspect of a story and do any real damage but he could open the door for a proper journalist to bring down he whole pack of cards. Essendon and their elastic salary cap is what I'd really like a journalist looking into.
