That's what they told my dad with his lung cancer. When he got the diagnosis the specialist said to him "we can go one of two ways. We can dose you with radiation therapy. It won't cure you but it will make your end of life a lot more comfortable and dignified. Otherwise we can do Chemotherapy-it might save your life but it will be painful and you won't be the man you were before" Dad went with radiation therapy (he grew up on a farm and when an animal was in too much trouble they got the .22 and put a bullet in it's head He made me promise that option would be available to him too. He didn't want me to shoot him but he also didn't want me prolonging his life if he was suffering


Then the oncologist said "fantastic news. The radiation therapy has got rid of all the tumor, it's like a miracle" I looked at dad and he looked at me and said "Have you ever heard of anyone being cured of cancer with radiation therapy?" The problem was mum convinced herself (despite dad and me telling her that it was really unlikely he'd been cured.)


Dad was dead 18 months later and I'd like to have a talk with that oncologist about his bedside manner.
