If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

You can still get it, but being vaxxed I guess you are less likely to get it severely and end up in hospital and overwhelming our health are system. Plus less likely to pass it on. It's a good thing for all of us.

Gibraltar are averaging 50+ cases a day the last week (worst spike since last year) despite 99% double vaccinated. Whatever your status, you can transmit it and catch it pretty easily. If you’re young and healthy, it’s likely a mild response. If you’re at risk, it can be very bad hence why all at risk people should take the vaccination for added protection.
We will also soon have access to anti viral medication that can be taken if infected (from Pfizer before anyone starts talking about ‘horse tablets’).
The most important thing and just a good idea in general is to ensure you’re as fit as possible and at a healthy weight. Obesity is a major factor in covid mortality rates. Obviously that’s not straightforward for everyone which is where vaccines should be utilised.
"Peak viral load" is distinct and separate from viral load decline which is faster for vaccinated people.
There have been a few people misinterpreting this paper by ignoring one of the key findings:
Fully vaccinated individuals with delta variant infection had a faster (posterior probability >0·84) mean rate of viral load decline (0·95 log10 copies per mL per day) than did unvaccinated individuals with pre-alpha (0·69), alpha (0·82), or delta (0·79) variant infections.
In a nutshell - vaccinated people are infectious for a shorter amount of time, noting the viral load decline is not strictly linear.

My friend is an infectious disease specialist in ICU1 at Royal Melbourne. The vast majority of patients there (at least last time we spoke a couple of weeks ago) are unvaccinated and almost all from the Northern suburbs in a particular community with high rates of vaccine hesitancy.

It’s not misinterpreting to say both vaccinated and unvaccinated can catch and transmit the virus. The study proves that. Yes, vaccination decreases the possibility (though that reduces over time hence the need for boosters). I’m for vaccination in general particularly for those high risk, I am vaccinated but the mandates…no way.

The biggest issue is hospitalisation, and that is the reason we need to be all vaccinated.
Sooner or later we will all catch coronavirus in some form or another, but we need to keep people out of hospital.

Yep, Not looking forward to that and I'll make sure I get the booster shot as soon as I can.

I worry about people like my mum who doesn't really have a functional immune system and now she's been diagnosed with cancer so she's in and out of hospital for that. Luckily she's had both her vaccines and her booster but the next person who blithely tells me that they have no problem with sacrificing the elderly so they can go to nightclubs will be picking their teeth up off the ground.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

With all due respect, our elected state and federal leaders have had 20 months to address this and have done precisely nothing. As an example, how are we an eye-watering $156bn in debt in Victoria now but actually have less ICU beds than we did at the start of the pandemic? Where are the 4,000 new ICU beds that were promised? What on earth have we been spending all this tax-payer funded money on? The entire premise of the very first lockdown in March 2020 was "2 weeks to flatten the curve" in order to protect our hospital capacity. That only ended up being the first of a never-ending series of lies from all of our elected leaders. I am judging them purely on their actions and behaviours.
I see fully vaccinated people are now being locked down in some European countries - when this invariably happens next winter in Australia, I shudder to think of how the population, who has overwhelmingly done what was asked by our elected leaders, will cope (especially those of us in the lockdown capital of the world, Melbourne). And today in Melbourne unvaxxed people cannot go shopping for non-essential items but they could freely do so less than 24 hours ago. Sorry but this is clown world stuff.

Breakthrough cases can transmit, yes…but unvaccinated people are way more likely to get COVID than those who are protected to be a breakthrough case, so you are doing what you can to protect your family/community by doing it.
I will state again, this thread is probably the weirdest / most unsettling thing I’ve read on here in my over ten years

Nothing you have said disputes or contradicts what I have already said, so I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make or convince me of.

Perhaps I should’ve quote tweeted the following for clarity re: context
‘…not because it’ll protect Nanna (she is vaccinated because she should be as she’s over 70 and anyway, I can catch Covid and transmit it to her anyway)’
Have you got any issue with the ‘no jab, no play’ re: school kids?
