    Bankers and Anchors - Round 5 2016

This is the round 5 2016 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against Brisbane Lions is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys that you we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    BANKERS

    3. Liberatore. The AFL media in general seem to just be shocked at his ability to hit the scoreboard, kicking five goals from five games.

    2. Bontempelli seems to be getting into the flow of things, he has also been threatening in attack with 7 goals for the season so far.

    1. Mclean played a very strong game; 25 touches and 2 goals on a flank is a great return and he had two goal assists which was handy.

    -ANCHORS-

    1. Suckling. Not because he was bad, because the last thing we need is another injury to one of our flankers/link-up players.

    2. Macrae. Once more he was good but if you're 30 out in front then take the bloody shot, don't pass it off.

    3. Stevens. Best on ground for us but some of his clangers were shocking which would kill us against better teams.

Stevens clangers killed us tonight, don't worry about good teams.

Does so many good things though.

    B:

Stevens. Sure he's going to make a few mistakes, but his sum total is getting better and better
Winning. A lot of things to work on, but another W
Stringer's goal. Possibly his best. 3 opponents left on the ground & two around him. Just get the basics right Jake, already now.

    A:

    Inside 50's horrible
    Goal kicking horrible
Letting an insipid side take percentage of us in the last quarter

It was certainly an encouraging display after a longish break.

    Bankers

    1. Stevens - hard as nails. He was in everything and when he tackles it crunches players.
    2. Stringer - he has been off the boil for a few weeks but tonight he reminded us why he is the package. He makes things happen when he touches the ball. That goal, wow!
    3. Roughead/Stevens/Wallis - they were was enormous in the clearances tonight. They are really starting to gel. Some of Roughead's taps to advantage were all class.

    Bankers

    1. Injuries again - this can't really be happening. Gee Norf are getting us at a good time.
    2. Stevens - can someone get BOG and WOG. Some of his turnovers were so costly
    3. Bombing the ball into forward 50 - it didn't work the first time or the second so why do it a 5th and sixth etc. I think they are just trying to go a little too quick at times and it results in the bombing it in rather than slowing it down a tad and lower the eyes.

5 clangers from 34 disposals but ran at 73% efficiency - One of his best games he has played for us.

A couple of his kicks to forwards out the back were *!*!*!*!ing delightful and showed fantastic vision. His hands to create the goal for Dickson in the 3rd quarter were outstanding.

    Bankers

Campbell- Best big man on the ground. I think he and Boyd could work really well together.

Wallis- Covered a lot of ground, racked up contested ball, and killed Brisbane at the stoppages.

Dahlhaus- I can't think of another player who works as hard as he does week in week out. He gets smashed and just gets up and goes again. He flies under the radar a bit these days.

    Anchors

Goal kicking- It's worse than suburban division 2 teams. It's going to cost us matches obviously, the question is how many and when.

Brisbane supporters- There were 2 or 3 groups of them just standing in the middle of the aisles sociallizing while the game was on preventing people from seeing. The obnoxious pricks even wanted to argue with people for being rude when they told them to sit down.

Injuries- Injuries are bad but injuries to the same type of player over and over are worse again.

I don't disagree and like the idea of always having a tall presence up forward, but do you think Bevo goes with 3 big guys?
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.
