    Bankers and Anchors - Round 7 2016

This is the round 7 2016 edition of the Weekly Bankers and Anchors Thread. Once the game against Adelaide is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys that you we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    B:

Stringer & Redpath combo. Can't wait to add Boyd in.
Engine room. Dahl, Wally, Libba. Awesome.
Winning a high pressure game!!!!! And a kid like Bailey being crucial in the last 5-10 minutes.

    A:

Betts knocking the ball out and appealing for deliberate out of bounds. Then the umpire paying it...
Roberts & Adcock, unless your VFL form is brilliant for 2 months, thanks for your service. 21 of our players laid a tackle, but not Adcock...
Capitalising forward entries and goal kicking. It won't be raised too much with a huge win, but we had a heap more for a slim margin.

    Bankers
    Jack Redpath's inclusion.
Liberatore's 1st quarter tackle on Sloan.
The free kick count 28 to 12, sorry Adelaide they were justified.

    Anchors
    Roberts - alas, totally outplayed.
68 inside 50's to 37 and we won by just 15 points.
Jack Macrae's inability to kick long - although the effort is there for sure

    B:

    - Bonti. Huge game from him and the fatc that he nailed the sealer after missing them in the EF was really pleasing.
    - Redpath. He gave us structure, took pressure off Stringer and finished really well.
    - Dale's last quarter. He had a big impact with some class and composure.

    A:

    - Roberts is not AFL standard and I'd have him as a strong delist candidate. No point holding onto players because they're tall, and he's had enough time to put together more than he has to date. We have better options out of the side and I'm confident we could even find better representation in a state league.

    - The game has gone past Adcock. He's very slow by foot and he goes to ground constantly - two traits of a player who can no longer keep up. I was a fan of the decision to rookie him but it hasn't worked.

-Our incessant, stupid, frustrating propensity to handball handball handball. It gets us into so much trouble. We over possess far, far too much.

Re: Bankers and Anchors - Round 7 2016

    Bankers

    1. Matthew Boyd's tackle on Jenkins in the goal square plus his two big marks with 5 minutes to go.

    2. Stringers 4 goals plus creating at least another 4

    3. Roughy, Campbell and Redpath took 16 marks, plus Stringer 5. We haven't seen that for a long time.

    Anchors

    1. Allowing Adelaide to kick 17 goals from 37 inside 50s

    2. Roberts inability to compete in the air and some poor decision making costing us goals.

    3. Macrae refusing to have a shot at goal and passing off to someone in a worse position - really frustrating

I thought Roberts' one on one contest were quite good. Structure caused us to leak goals not Roberts alone.

    B:
Bont - did some very good things at important times, feels like he's going to explode over the balance of the season
Dale - justified the faith shown in him by the MC tonight, played a hand in winning the game for us (a big hand) with some important touches, tackles and marks
Redpath - good to have him back and demonstrated the benefit of having a big forward who can lead at the ball carrier/into the space

    A:
Adcock - I'm losing faith in his ability to become a player for us
Me - for not tipping us

Hey Easty, is this new? This thread has always been about areas of the game, not just the best & worst 3 players. It also appears to contradict your anchors

    Bankers

Another win in the hitouts against one of the league's best rucks
    Dominating clearances & contested possessions
Better ball use going inside 50

    Anchors

Getting outmarked in defensive 50 - we can't allow someone to kick 8 goals and expect to win every week
Eddie getting out the back in the last when the game was on the line
Umpires trying to even up the free kick count in the last with the game on the line
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Re: Bankers and Anchors - Round 7 2016

Bonti- just brilliant. Ridiculously clean hands. Trust me, the tv version didn't do justice to how good his one-grab was of the footy when he kicked his first goal. 10 important last quarter possessions including the match winner.
Wally- almost single handedly turned the game back in our favour in the third. Huge.
Woody- was just grand in defence.

    Anchors:
The bloke (who hasn't sat in our area previously to my knowledge) who sat behind me and near on ruined one of the best h&a games I've seen. Just sat down and teed off on Macrae, hunter and Roberts the whole game, was a broken record about how easily Adelaide were getting goals and how stupid footballers all our players are. Just non-stop absolute ear cancer for 2 hours. I'm really not too sure if he was happy we won, or was disappointed that he couldn't continue to rant about what failures we are.

Don't really want to anchor anyone after such a great win. Roberts and Adams probably struggled a bit- but the were left wide open by the mids and high backs over committing forward at times, so it would have been bloody tough.

Bankers - The fans! For egging the boys on and making Etihad a genuine hot-house for the opposition. The boys' gutsy effort with the song at the end. Topped off a grand night. Special mention for Baily Dale - does he shave yet? The youth in our team is incredible, their courage.

    Anchors - Doubters.

We really miss Suckling and JJ for those long penetrating kicks.

Bankers - Boyd, cops a lot of flak for his missing of targets, but he was immense in that last term
The Bont ,the match winning goal, and he took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Stringer, I think mentally Redpaths inclusion really helped him
Anchors - We were scored against to easy. Roberts had a mare of a night
    - The social media Adelaide whinge. They were second to the ball for the majority of the night, and hence why we got the most free kicks .
    - Channel 7 commentary, it was awful! Brian Taylor just consumes his own bath water constantly . Another name to the blooper files, Fraser Dale! Taylor had Jake doing his "String", and even after showing the replay he was adamant he'd done his hammy.
You could see from 200 metres away he'd been corked .
