    The Coaching Merry-Go-Round Discussion Thread

I'm wondering which AFL coaches are in the gun for this year and next.

Leppitsch - Surely it's soon, despite a year to run.
Hardwick - Again has a contract, but he's looking more and more like Frawley & Wallace as a lame duck at Punt Road.
Brad Scott - Has 12 years left on his contract, but has expertly put together a mediocre and old list misjudging his cattle majorly.
Rocket Eade - Doesn't seem like a happy marriage.
Ross Lyon - Freo can't afford to move him on with 3 or 4 years on his contract, but I wouldn't want him trying to rebuild.
Buckley - Again, has a contract, but he's taken then backwards every year despite every advantage his club has afforded him.

Recent sacked coaches also had years to run, including our former coach. Is the trend to sign coaches up for too long? Because I'd hazard a guess that a few would have 'a mutual separation' if contract paying out wasn't an issue.

Previous coaches already throwing their hat in the ring?

We know Mark Thompson and Brett Ratten have said they're ready to go again. What about Mark Harvey? He was doing an alright job at Freo before he was shafted.

The real question is what is Gary Ayers up to.

    Am I doing this right?

I know you're being funny but hasn't Ayres taken his medicine and run a fairly successful club at the second tier level?

He might be a dinosaur/relic and that's what holds him back, but hasn't he at least got the resume to throw his hat in?

I honestly don't see how Ayers isn't involved in the AFL system. He's a gun coach. He's a natural for those senior assistant jobs that are all the rage these days.

Still it's Port Melbourne's good luck that he isn't.
Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again, Dougal!?

I agree gun coach but a difficult to work with 2LT I'd reckon.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

And he's 2 years younger than Rocket Eade.

Its a pretty simple theory, but my theory is he loves doing what he does at the moment.

He'd be on a fairly healthy salary, have nowhere near the stress that an AFL club position would bring, would enjoy a rather unique brand of fan support (Port fans are pretty good value), has some pretty skilled and hardworking players under his tutelage.

    Why leave?

I read somewhere recently that when he leaves Port he wants to coach a women's side.

Will Richmond do a Richmond? 88 point thumping and only kicking 3 goals with 2 goal-less quarters. Richmond sacks coaches after long periods of not very much and a very, very poor loss.

    Dimma's doing a good job.

The media attention will circle around off us and land right in Richmond's lap.
I don't think the coach is the issue it's more around the recruiting however, he will be under a fair bit of pressure this week.

That they claim not to be entertaining interest from other clubs in Brett Deledio tells me they're not serious as list managers.

He'd command a first round and maybe a player most likely, which is precisely what they need. Or possibly, a couple of decent younger players in a trade could secure him.

It would be great if we could somehow get our hands on him. He'd really add some outside polish and finishing ability to our team.
