Yeah I reckon he was. His first trade period for Carlton was in 2015, if I remember correctly.

Re: Players On The Market 2016
Gee GCS must be a basket case of epic proportions. They sign GAJ up to a three year deal on mega bucks, but hen he requests a trade to Geelong this year who disnt have the trade currency or salary cap space. I wonder how many years they have to turn it around before the AFEL start to think about moving the licence elsewhere?

Why on earth would Ablett sign then request a trade?
I actually think it says more about Ablett than GCS.
They would have been better to trade him and start with a huge clean slate.

I'm inclined to agree.
Trade him on the condition that they don't pay him another cent, extract max value from Geelong and go into the draft even stronger than they already are.
Draft wisely, take another lean year or two and let a whole new list develop.

So Geelong had Touhy, Deledio and Ablett all wanting a trade there. Couldn't even satisfy trade requests for Deledio, let alone if Ablett had announced it publicly.

Agree it says a lot about GAJ. But I'm guessing something has happened at that club for him to want out of his massive contract and his massive QLD AFEL ambassador cash. It's only a guess, but they went after Jong, Hrovat, Hartlett, Bruest, Hartung and a heap of other midfielders who all knocked them back except for Lions. When pretty much no one wants to be at that club, despite a lot more money & opportunity, then I think it's shot to shit. But I do agree, it says a heap about GAJ too.

I wouldn't mind having a look at Litherland. Good size and quick off half back.
