Probably not as a tagger but perhaps in the ruck from time to time
I still think we need some who is very capable of shutting down opposition players

Everyone needs to play at least two roles. Ruck/KPF...

Re: 2017 Headline Free Agents
I don't think there's room for a genuine tagger, rather, someone who can play a tight role in close when it's 50-50 and can spread and be used as a forward carrying or linking option a few times a quarter whilst hopefully sneaking forward to kick a goal.
The really good players don't like being accountable themselves a lot of the time. Sure they tackle when they need to often, but they tend not to be too flash on the spread and nothing drops a players confidence level like having a negative player kick a goal on them.
If you can get a midfielder who can play tight, spread and use the ball well then that's ideal. We do have one in Libba, mind you.

Buddy's deal is looking better for the Swans by the year

Come and see us when he's in his 20th year of his contract and they're looking for a bail out.

Re: 2017 Headline Free Agents
I've got a funny feeling that Fyfe's best footyy is behind him. Not that the footy ahead of him
Won't be high quality!
On Buddy, I get a feeling that even if he tails off in his later years, he'll be a different player who's filled out and still has unusually high athleticism for a bloke of his size. He'll always be a hard, hard match up and a distraction for the opposition. Time will tell, I guess. He's a freak.

Re: 2017 Headline Free Agents
I should follow up and say that the issue with Buddy's contract is not so much the length, but the fact that, I understand it, his remuneration is weighted heavily to the middle years of his deal. That is, years 4-6 see him earning much more than in years 1-3 and 7-9. Or at least that was how it was reported at the time.
If that's correct, something has to give from elsewhere on the list. Even with the 20% EBA bump up.

Plenty has already given due to the contract.
Mumford to GWS
Mitchell to Hawthorn
even Biggs to us were all caused by the Buddy contract.

Plus Bird, Malckski, arguably Richards and possibly either Jones or Reid this year. And they've not won a flag while their midfield has been at its peak. Plus it pissed off their last defender of COLA in Chairman Mike Fitxpatrick. It's made them money, but as a whole, there's a lot of pros and cons.

Re: 2017 Headline Free Agents
Fyfe has officially re-signed with Freo for 6 more years, effectively for the remainder of his playing career. .
