Wood's hamstring looked like the worst one I've ever seen. I'd be surprised if it is any less than the amount Bob missed.

How do you see a hamstring strain?

I'm not a doctor, but I think it's where they reach for it. The higher up the leg the worse it is. Wood grabbed pretty high.

More that it was from such an atypical wrenching motion, as opposed to a guy running. Seemed very unusual for a hamstring to be ripped in such a way, and suggests it was under immense strain.

Also that he couldn't even move without significant assistance.

    No surgery for Wood

Western Bulldogs vice-captain Easton Wood has avoided surgery on his left hamstring, and is expected to be back running by the end of the week, according to head physiotherapist Chris Bell.

Wood left the ground in the first quarter of the weekend’s win over Brisbane after grabbing at his hamstring and did not return.
Speaking to westernbulldogs.com.au on Tuesday, Bell said that scans have confirmed Wood suffered a ‘high-grade’ hamstring injury, but the Club was optimistic that the defender could return to play finals if the Dogs were to qualify.

“We’ve worked through a process which has included specialist opinion and we’ve decided that the best form of management will be conservative management, and that Easton does not require surgery,” Bell said.
“We have started our rebab programming already and hope to have Easton running at the back end of this week.”

Two other weekend casualties, Jason Johannisen and Tory Dickson have both reported to the Club on Monday in good shape, and Bell said both were a chance to play against the Giants on Friday night providing they get through the week.

Johannisen was a late withdrawal from Saturday’s clash with the Lions are suffering hamstring tightness in the warm-up, and it was decided it was not worth a risk, Bell said.

“Jason is a real high speed athlete so we weren’t prepared to take any risk with these symptoms so we withdrew him from the game.”
“JJ’s come in really well today and we’ll work through a process with him this week to determine if he’s available to play this weekend.”

It’s a similar story for Dickson, who suffered quad tightness in the final kick of the day during last Thursday’s training session at VU Whitten Oval.

“We were forced to withdraw Tory from availability on the weekend… [he’s] come in really well today though on our assessment and we’ll go through a process this week to determine if he’s back into full training and if he’s able to play.”

The news is better for livewire forward Jake Stringer, however, who looks set to make his return from a hamstring injury.

“Jake has continued to show great progress on his hamstring injury. He completed a game-like training session on the weekend and has pulled up really well,” Bell said.

“If Jake ticks out boxes this week with training he’ll be available to play.”

Veteran defender Dale Morris continues to battle back from a wrist fracture, with the Club optimistic of a return in ‘the next couple of weeks.’

“He’s completed some really good football sessions and we’ve continued to progress his contact.
“We’re working closely with the surgeon to progress him week by week but really optimistic that we’re going to see him back in the next couple of weeks.”

Mitch Honeychurch is also expected to be available after recovering from a facial infection.

    Don't think so:

Really? The club still says its a high grade injury and should be back if we make finals. I'd say thats 4 weeks out minimum to me.

It reads that he will be back for finals, if we make it. Looked like it was a serious hammy when he did it so a 3-4 week lay-off is a good result.

Positive that all things being equal JJ, Stringer & Dickson will be back.

I'm not surprised that Morris wants to continue on next year. He is tough.

Honeychurch sounded a little worrying but good to hear his recovering.

    Defensive duo set to return

The Western Bulldogs could welcome back defenders Jason Johannisen and Dale Morris this weekend if the pair pass fitness tests according to head physiotherapist Chris Bell.

Johannisen has missed the past two weeks with a hamstring complaint but looks set to return against Port Adelaide in Ballarat on Saturday.“Jason Johannisen didn’t quite pass our final fitness test going into the main training session last week,

    " Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au
“He completed a good footy session on the weekend and got through that really well so we’ll look at him this week. If he completes our main training session as we’ve got planned he’ll be available this weekend.

Defender Dale Morris continues to mark rapid progress recovering from the broken arm he suffered against the Suns in Round 18, with Bell optimistic he’ll be available for selection this weekend.

“He’s back into full training this week which is fantastic,” he said.“We’ve just got to tick some final boxes with Dale but we’re all optimistic he’s going to be available to play this weekend.

    "
The Bulldogs defensive stocks could also be boosted by Marcus Adams in coming weeks as the West Australian recovers from a foot injury.“In some great news Marcus Adams is back into some football training,” Bell said.“We’re working through a process now to rebuild his match fitness.

At this stage we’re hoping he’s going to present to be available in the next two to three weeks.

In further good news from the Club ruckman Tom Campbell is expected to return this weekend after recovering from an abdominal tear. “At this stage if he full trains this week as we planned and he pulls up really well he’ll be available this weekend.”
