2017 Make or Break: Shane Biggs?

Is this the make or break season of Shane Biggs career?

He's going into his 4th season with us after what (2-3) with the Swans

He's shown he can play (neat kick, provides a bit of run, reasonable without being outstanding at contested ball) but time stands still for no man and if he doesn't kick on in 2018 is this the end for Shane Biggs?

Do you think this is the crossroad year for him?

No. Hes easily a best 22 player and has been for 2 seasons now. Underated.

Huge season coming up for him. With Boyd and Murphy gone Biggs must stand up and be counted.
I don't think we can accept a less that satisfactory result from him. He's been a good performer but I think he can do better

It's the sort of season for him where by the end of 2018 he should be regarded as an improver or someone who we are looking to trade.

I think he can play Chef but if he doesn't do it next year then will we just look to replace him with a kid or prioritise others we have?

It's a massive year for him I'd think to show he can be more than just a semi regular to regular

Look at what North have done with Gibson

That's what I think - he's had enough of a look, he's good enough but has to drive himself to a higher lever and improve his game otherwise we will look to the draft and our list for replacements - Williams, Lynch etc

He has to step up and fill the void of Murphy and Boyd and if he can't do that then he's expendable. He's tenacious and plays within his limitations but he must push himself to get a fair bit better. He needs to be not happy with his performances and challenge himself to improve

    His 2017 was better than both Murphy's and Boyd's. Top 10 B&F
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

His second half of 2017 was better than his first. He is best 22 but there will be challengers for his spot so he has to perform consistently well. I like it when he takes the game on. I don't think he kicked a goal in 2017.
Whatever the future holds for him he will always be remembered for "The Wall of Biggs" which he put up at about the 20 minute mark of the last quarter in the Grand Final. It was his finest hour.

Should this thread be about 2018?

Biggs started 2017 slowly but built up in the second half. He is easily best 22, and has been underrated by many supporters.

Bit tough saying it's a make or break year for Biggs . Reckon he was a lot better in the second half of the season .

I watched the wall of Biggs about fifty times. It was my favourite moment in the grandy. Hope he steps up again next year. This could be a great year for him. Fingers crossed

    “The Great Wall of Biggs” has some largely unknown facts;

Is the single most tenacious play of a bulldog in my living memory.
Can be seen from the moon.
As great a “bottom 6” player in a GF victory as you have ever seen.
Kept out both the mongols and the mongrels.
One of the modern wonders of the world.

No not at all, even if he stays at his current level he has a spot in the team beyond 2018.

Re: 2017 Make or Break: Shane Biggs?

The question is, does he have another level?

It would be great if he took on more responsibility and drove his performance up again given he's one of our more experienced defenders now, but if he were to plateau he probably has a role in our side for the foreseeable future. He's versatile with his ability to play tall and small, and while he needs to be a more consistent attacking presence, he's demonstrated he can do it.

He plays his role and he is a best 22 player.
    Reliable and gives his all.
