Re: MRO Thread
What Greene did was dirty and cheap but there was no definitive vision of any eye gouging - he would have copped 6+ weeks if there was clear vision corroborating an eye gouge charge. Greene has rat cunning and knows the system well enough to push the envelope as far as possible without crossing over into suspension territory, which explains only 6 weeks suspension for 16 charges.
I blame the hot mess of a system and not the players who work with it. Far too much emphasis is placed on the medical report and not on the action itself. Greene's action warrants suspension because it is a shocking look for the game. But it is up to the AFEL to manage this properly, not the clubs or players.

Re: MRO Thread
Absolutely.
That they've effectively used the same stick to punish both Suckling's actions, and Greene's, highlights the rank inequity and ultimate absurdity of the system.
The problem is, if the culpability emphasis shifted to evaluating 'intent' at least as much as outcomes, how could you conceivably trust this lot to get it right?
Even the AFEL have enough self awareness to know to play within their limitations.

I agree with you, but if the AFL does nothing, then the clubs need to complain.

NRL have the right idea how to dish out penalties. They don't muck around. A player tonight got 8 weeks and he barely gouged the eye of his opponent.
Dishing out fines is a joke to players.

Kane Evans. The NRL were an absolute joke only a few years ago but it has gone way past the AFL when it comes to punishments
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Meanwhile there was no definitive proof of a gouge by Young in the NRL and he copped 8 weeks.

Yep, he had his hands over the players face, but they couldn't prove gouging.

Jack Riewoldt surprised Greene didn’t get 1 week.

Re: MRO Thread
Sam Burgess (Sydney Rabbitohs) got one week for hair pulling ... let alone slamming his head into the ground or pounding him repeatedly with a forearm and eye gouging. Maybe Burgess forgot to say I'm sorry

Love to endorse belting blokes behind play ...
... while tacitly endorsing the AFEL's inclination to agree.

Good old Danger, classic company man. Let’s see someone clip him behind the play and watch him squeal like a stuck pig.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Dangerfield pulled out all the stops and listed the Bontempelli breaking Haynes larynx, Greene being charged with serious misconduct on Bontempelli.
Operation get Hawk off is well underway.

I Don't blame any of these guys, I blame the AFL for being so contrived and weak as p&ss and allowing this to happen.

Multi-talented is Dangerfield, he's even taken over MRO duties this week. What a diickhead.

Re: MRO Thread
What gives me the craps is the look of the game gets trotted out all year round and players records, yet somehow in sept the look of the game doesn’t seem to be a concern !
