Medical update: Dahl done for season; Bonti back

Luke Dahlhaus will miss the remainder of the 2018 with a serious ankle injury, while Marcus Bontempelli is a certain starter for Sunday’s clash with Port Adelaide in Ballarat, according to Western Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell.

Dahlhaus was brought down in a tackle in the early stages of the second quarter of Sunday’s 54-point loss to the West Coast Eagles, immediately grabbing his left ankle and leaving the ground assisted by trainers.

Bell said it’s a 6-8 week injury, effectively ending the 25-year-old’s season.

“The mechanism of the injury has damaged the high ankle area, or the syndesmosis part of his ankle,” he told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“This is notoriously slow to heal, and we expect at this stage for his recovery to take six to eight weeks, which is going to rule him out for the remainder of the season.”

Vice-captain Marcus Bontempelli, however, has received the all-clear to resume against the Power on the weekend at Mars Stadium.

“Marcus has completed a full week of training following the removal of his appendix,” Bell said.

“The surgeon has ticked off and he's feeling 100%, so he'll come back into full training this week and we expect him to be available.”

Midfielder Mitch Honeychurch is yet to receive the all-clear after colliding with Eagles captain Shannon Hurn on the weekend, despite the initial scans reporting no serious structural damage.

Honeychurch will undergo further scans before the full extent of any injury will be known.

“At the time of the injury he went down and when I got to him he did describe some next pain, so we were really cautious and took him off on the stretcher in a neck brace,” Bell said on Monday.

“Precautionary x-rays at the time showed that there was no serious structural damage to his neck. We're still working through a process with Mitch to work out the extent of his injury.

“He was a little bit dazed at the time of injury, but he's come in well today but we'll need to work through a process across the remainder of the week to work out his availability.”

In better news Lin Jong will return to full training this week following a smooth recovery from a collarbone injury, while Tory Dickson looks to at least a week away as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

At what point does Bevo pull on the boots?

Send him to Wines this weekend after an hour of staring at a picture of Barrett's supercilious mug. Good luck Ollie.

So who was it that broke the mirror while walking under a ladder crossing a black cat's path while counting to 13?

Can we burn them at the stake or something to get rid of this curse?
Wake me up when we get to heaven, let me sleep if we're going to hell

Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath

And we all found heaven - 2016 Premiers!

You gotta laugh or you'll cry.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if our tanking tactics have just gone to another level. And the Bont returning is just a diversion.

    Re: Injury List 2018

Western Bulldogs sharp shooter Tory Dickson could be available for selection for the first time since round 11 according to Club medical services manager Chris Bell, as the Dogs get ready to welcome back a number of players before the season is out.

Hamstring injuries have kept the 30-year-old Dickson sidelined for all but five games this season but he is expected to return to full training this week.

“Tory had ticked all of our boxes following his hamstring injury,” Bell told westernbulldogs.com.au on Monday.

“He completed a really solid training session on the weekend in Ballarat. He'll come back into full training this week and if he ticks our boxes as we expect he'll (be available.)”

First year forward Billy Gowers can circle round 21 on the calendar according to Bell, while Easton Wood could return within a fortnight.

“Easton has been fantastic in his recovery from a hamstring injury, and he's probably progressed quicker than we initially expected,” he said.

“He's back into some high speed running and some football training. At this stage he's on track to return for the last few games of the year.”

The exact date of Tom Boyd’s return, however, is still up in the air he continues to recover from a back injury.

“The injury is quite volatile and did react poorly after the West Coast game,” Bell said.

“We will work through a process with Tom over the next couple of weeks to determine his availability and his returning to play plan.”

The news is mixed on Roarke Smith and Kieran Collins as they continue to recover from last Friday’s car accident.

Collins is expected to return to training on Thursday, while the timing of Smith’s return will be clearer in coming days, Bell said.

“Roarke got a cut to his head and he did have a mild concussion.”

“He has also got some decent bruising around his knee. So we will work through a process with Roarke over the next couple of days to determine his availability.”

    Player Injury Duration
    Roarke Smith knee, concussion test
Kieran Collins whiplash, chest, abdominal test
    Lin Jong collarbone test
    Tory Dickson hamstring test
    Tom Campbell planter fasciitis test
    Billy Gowers ankle 1-2 weeks
    Tom Boyd back 2-3 weeks
    Bailey Williams foot 2-3 weeks
    Easton Wood hamstring 2-3 weeks
    Matthew Suckling achilles indefinite
    Jack Redpath knee season
    Luke Dahlhaus ankle season
    Lukas Webb neck season
    Liam Picken concussion season
    Bailey Dale foot season
    Tom Liberatore knee season

    Re: Injury List 2018

There is a claim that a lot of the soft tissue injuries in the AFL are caused by the bye. The bye was designed to rest players but on the contrary they have been pushed hard during the bye and 3-6 weeks later, a lot of soft tissue injuries happen. Research to come out soon apparently.

Jong getting into it at training, so looks like he may play this week - maybe VFL?
