Yes, hes been in the coaches votes at least twice - and hes playing a tougher role as a key position defender

Bevo was right to call this out

In fairness to Henry he plays a pretty similar role to Naughton and not dissimilar season long stats. He had a blinder on Friday night, including 10 intercept marks. Naughton's turn will come.

In fairness, nothing was going to top that effort.

That's a fair call. Good player and played well on the weekend.

I had just assumed Witherden was already nominated at some point. Just came into the Lions side and started getting 20+ from day one. I doubt he's had a bad game.

Sunday was probably not his best game and should have been nominated in the earlier rounds.

Usually happens at some point with the Rising Star. Like an actor getting an Oscar for a body of work rather than the average performance they were actually nominated for.

The Marisa Tomei rule. Judi Dench ended up getting a best supporter actor for a film (I think it was Shakespeare in Love) that she was pretty much an extra (about 5 minutes screen time) in because they were ting to catch up with he award that Jack Pallance awarded to Tomei (and that Tomei refused to give back, apparantly during the next ad break they explained what had happened to Tomei and asked if she would give the Oscar back and she said "no, I won't be doing that")

Witherden is a gun - the player that the AFL want to pretend Callum Mills is.

Ed Richards, nominated for round 10

    Sam Landsberger writes:

Richards grew up with Collingwood star Dale Thomas on his bedroom wall and he might’ve joined Daisy at Carlton, if not for arriving 40mins late to a pre-draft interview. Traffic jam helped lead him to Whitten Oval. Signed until 2021.

First-year Bulldog the latest Rising Star

FIRST-YEAR Western Bulldogs dasher Ed Richards is the round 10 NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.

Richards produced the best performance of his nine-game AFL career on Friday night against Collingwood with 23 disposals (10 contested), eight intercept possessions and five inside 50s.

The 18-year-old defender is the grandson of Magpies premiership player Ron Richards, brother of the legendary Lou Richards, who captained that 1953 Collingwood Grand Final side.

A knee injury in the opening TAC Cup round last year cost him the chance to play for Vic Metro, but he produced a strong finish to the season with Oakleigh Chargers and Caulfield Grammar.

The Bulldogs ultimately swooped on Richards with the 16th pick, cementing him as a draft bolter.

He had to wait until round two to make his AFL debut, but has played every match since, averaging 15 possessions and 3.2 tackles per game.
