The Western Bulldogs have signed AFLW free agent and former Fremantle Docker Belinda Smith for the 2019 season.

Smith, a 23-year-old from Western Australia, has played both seasons in the AFLW competition for the Dockers and arrives at the Bulldogs with an ability to play in a variety of positions.

Smith played predominately in defence for Fremantle, making seven appearances in the first AFLW season and five last season.

She has been deployed as a forward this season for her WAWFL club East Fremantle, where she has booted 14 goals in seven games.

In the first ever AFLW round in 2017, Smith amassed 17 disposals as a defender against the Bulldogs at VU Whitten Oval.

“When we saw that Belinda was available, I was constantly drawn back to that performance against us in our first ever game as an indication of her talent,” said AFLW head coach Paul Groves.

“She has excellent speed and clean hands and can be very damaging around the goals.

“We think Belinda will complement our playing list and we’re looking forward to seeing what she can produce for us.”

Earlier this week the Bulldogs announced that 22 players of its premiership playing list had re-signed for season three of the AFLW competition.

The Club will take five picks to the National Draft later this year.
