2018 Trade Hypotheticals
Ok, this isn't a fact based thread. Not even rumour. This is a hypothetical thread to gauge what we are prepared to give up of quality, to get something of quality.
There's a lot of talent sitting on the trade market, see Wingard, Gaff, Lynch, Shiel, Hannerbery, Parker etc. - Now imagining we called up all those clubs and they wanted players, not picks. They want top talent, not HC or Campbell, to send us great talent. So imagine...
Say with Gaff, they wanted initially English as a straight swap, or then Adams & Roughy amongst a high pick for the trade? Yes, no?
McVeigh tells his Sydney footy boss, get my cousin Lachie Hunter up here. Yes, no?
GWS for any of their guns demand McLean. Yes, no?
Port want JJ or Bailey Williams, plus Young amongst a pick. Yes, no?
St Kilda offer Billings for Dunkley? Yes, no?
Etc. etc. What if there was an opportunity at two somehow (a medium/large salary parted us in a trade). Who would we part with? Or do we refuse to trade players and limit ourselves with pick trades only?

No.

Not pick 7

No. Not for hannerbury or Rohan. Neither for a pick
GWS for any of their guns demand McLean. Yes, no?
McLean is a gun. No swap there. No point.
Port want JJ or Bailey Williams, plus Young amongst a pick. Yes, no?
JJ stays. I'd talk about Williams and young at table for a McGovern.
St Kilda offer Billings for Dunkley? Yes, no?
Dunkley will boom in midfield next year. Billings is a crab.

Like your thinking.
Footy fans generally overrate their players and don't want to give up any to trade, which obviously limits a club's ability to trade.
With your examples, do we assume that the suggested Dogs are open to changing clubs, moving interstate etc?
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

Are you sure? What if the GWS player coming to us was Kelly?

Yep. The player is happy with the move and new contract.

Re: 2018 Trade Hypoeticals
If trades are with Sydney or GWS, they have the inside running on our players with JMac & Dalrymple respectively. They might like players in particular if they rate them from their time with our club.

Re: 2018 Trade Hypotheticals
McLean signed a contract this year, no way he is on the table.
The only players to trade out should be fringe or those who want out. We're the youngest team in the competition, the nucleus is there. The Stengle rumours I like - we need a small forward and he won't cost much.
At this stage the only 'gettable' player on the market sounds like Wingard who would cost our pick 7 and possibly more and $1m per season.

I can see your angle. But why would you try gain a good player for a good player. Unless your hand is forced.
