Sometimes I think the public narrative glosses over how evidently flawed Teddy was, and is poorer for it. Sure, I get that he was from another era, but the anecdotes I have heard of him mixed with the actual evidence of his behaviour on and off the field suggests a more complex and interesting character than the one who forces jingoistic admiration just about every time his name is mentioned.
