Banker and Anchors, Round 9. 2019 vs Geelong

This is the round 9, 2019 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Geelong is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    Bankers

Bailey Smith - 28 touches and kept trying all night. Has to win a Rising Star nom this week.
Jack Macrae was great for almost the whole game
    Bont's third quarter.

    Anchors
Skill level - lost the game on scores from turnovers alone, and then add in the mix the missed opportunities
The umpires. I don't think I've seen a more inept umpiring performance for a long time.
Geelong's smugness. Add Stewart to the Smugly Smugglerson list. When they get on top they have ZERO class.

    Bankers

I'm not sure if we had pick 1 we'd take Walsh, Smith just impresses me that much. He's going to be insanely good for us.
Trengove is just such a team man. Gives 100% constantly.
Wallis was our best with Smith. Such good workrate.

    Anchors

Back six looked clueless for the first five minutes. Surely you work out where to stand pre-game?
Hayes had a pure unadulterated nightmare.
Our real silk by foot (Bont and Richards) unsighted in the first half. Needed to get them into the play more.

    Bankers
Trengove - good in the ruck, good on the ground
    Wallis - good forward option.
Smith - love how he goes about it.

    Anchors
    Our starts.
    Hayes and Young. Both poor
    Umpires. Complete incompetence. Disgraceful.

    Bankers - Smith , what a gem
    - Didn’t fall into the trap of kicking blindly forward
    - Don’t play at the hovel for another 12 months
Anchors - The back 6 was horrible , we leaked way to many scores
    - The officiating was horrendous
    - Not sure how Will Hayes gets a game ahead of Williams, Dale or Lipinski

    Bankers:

    - Bont = love
    - Wallis. Finished. Competed. Clever.
    - The ruck position. Thought Jacko was good but imagine having a dominant big man each week?’

    Anchors:

    - Hayes. Horrible.
    - Match committee: stop picking Hayes
    - Gowers. Just annoying.

Re: Banker and Anchors, Round 9. 2019 vs Geelong

    Bankers:
    - Smith was very good. I want to see him take it on more and kick the ball - he'll be so much more damaging.
    - After a poor first half, Bont really lifted.
    - JJ's run was vital.

    Anchors:
    - Match Committee. For years we put out some stupid team selections, but the past few weeks has taken the cake with dropping some players (Schache, Young) whilst refusing to drop others (Hayes, Young, Gowers). Absolute idiocy.
    - Umpiring. Particularly the ones they didn't pay. Pathetic.
    - Geelong. The place, the people, their players. I absolutely despise this club.

Stewart can join his mate Harry Tarry and be added to the pantheon of Geelong knobs. First he had a crack at Suckling in his on field interview at quarter time, and then mocked Smith's haircut (WTF?). Knob.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

    Bankers

    1. Bont's goal from 70 metres out
    2. Smith - glad we picked him
    3. Wallis - gives his all to the club

    Anchors

    1. the whole Geelong team - pack of smart elecks. Hope Dangerfield is out for the season, then let's see you perform
    2. Kelly - Elbow to the head of Trengove - probably won't even be cited.
    3. Free kicks - disgrace

I didn't hear him pot Suckling but paying out Smith's haircut was funny.

    - Bont. When finally put in the middle gave a little masterclass. Some of the things he does you have to go back to see what he actually did. Confusing but beautiful to watch
    - Wallis and Macrae give 100% at all times they were hard at it
    - Trengove and English combo will be awesome together one day.
    - Smith gets a special mention. Some of his contest he looks like he has no chance of getting the ball then all of a sudden he is flying out the back with the ball under his arm. Brilliant
    A
    - the whole Geelong arrogance. Would love us to have that sort of confidence though.
    - umpires missed a fair few that would of made things a bit different
    - really like Hayes as a gatherer but he was unfortunately an anchor tonight.

Re: Banker and Anchors, Round 9. 2019 vs Geelong

    Bankers;

Wally - enormous game. Seems to always play well v Geelong, which given their dominance against us, is impressive and likely not common across the group.
B.Smith - the kid is a jet. Reminds me of a young Cooney how he can put the foot down and explode his way out of traffic.
    Bont's third quarter.

    Anchors:

Defensive unit - very poor. Young and Roberts looked terrible. Others well down - JJ the only winner down there.
Hayes - not up to it. He surely can't survive selection this week.
Richards - have to expect inconsistency from the really young ones. But he didn't get near it. Game was still live when he missed one straight in front with 10 mins to go.
