Bankers and Anchors: Rnd 14, 2019 vs Collingwood

This is the round 14, 2019 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Collingwood is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    B

Schache - 3 goals, lots of running, relief ruck on Grundy, used his body well
    Bonts - He's Bonts
    Daniel - 40+ and a goal

    A

Suckling - puts the footy on the ground and does pick it up until 23 seconds is used up. Professional??
Duryea - Looked a long, long way off touch
Roarke - Missed team mates by foot and hand, missed an easy goal. Nothing personal, he tries hard and all that, but surely we have better at VFL level.

    Bankers
    Macrae - outstanding effort.
    Daniel - outstanding effort
Schache and Richards - promising returns to the team.

    Anchors
Inaccuracy - question to coaching staff - how many games to we need to lose for this to be addressed ?

    B-

Macrae had 8 tackles to halftime. Huge workrate
    Daniel was ridiculous
Schache + Lloyd. It's almost like playing forwards as forwards makes the forwardline work better.

    A -

Again, we have more scoring shots but kick less goals.

I really think our effort an endeavour is there, it's just that final connection we don't do well.

    Bankers

    1. Macrae - wow what an effort, really tried to get us over the line.
    2. Daniel - in AA form and a goal as well.
    3. 6 players all with 30 plus disposals, unbelievable really.

    Anchors

    1. Yes as we know -set shot goal kicking
    2. Cordy is struggling
    3. a bit unfair, but English struggled in the ruck against the AFL's best

Re: Bankers and Anchors: Rnd 14, 2019 vs Collingwood

    Bankers:

Bont was relentless in his efforts to try and overcome Grundy's ruck dominance by reading his taps and got 10 of our 31 clearances himself.
Macrae - great to see him 100% midfield where he is supposed to be. Game high possessions and tackles, tremendous effort.
Schache - dropped and asked to improve his competitiveness. Thought his second efforts and contests were better....but putting that aside - nice to have a forward who knows how to play there and takes his opportunities. Stick with him FFS,

    Anchors:

Naughton - getting some bad habits in his game, playing from behind too often. Only 19 - he'll be alright.
Suckling - bloody missed chances again this week. Others liked his game last week - i didn't. Just because he kicked one freakish goal doesn't excuse his simple miss that started the rot last week. And again today, takes set shots and snaps in a smart arse laconic fashion - much prefer him as a defender where he reads the game well and helps us set up.
More missed shots - Lloyd (played well but missed crucial shots) Roarke Smith's miss (and generally not being quite there at the level with skill and decision making when its really hot), Naughton (week after week).

Kick the goals, you win the game. Beaten by a side who kicked 13.4. Its the greatest miracle of all time that we kicked 7.1 in the first half of the '16 GF. Completely out of character.

All the above posts hit the mark for me. Really enjoyed Schache’s 2nd efforts - dong what coaches asked of him. Let’s see Lewy Young in side too, and Westy. Also Cavarra who did some deft touches and looked up to it in VFL today.

Not too despondent- however it is so very clear we need a specialist goal kicking coach.

Really liked Lippy’s composure too-can recall one Clanger but thought he looked AOK today and is a better kick than a lot of our side.

I agree, looks a nice kick but why did he only kick it 7 times out of his 31 touches?????
