Half time and Darcy has been pretty impressive in defence. Taken some strong contested marks and used the ball well.

Saw there was meant to be some online coverage of the game but all the links seem to go through the HS site and suffice to say I'm not a subscriber. Is there any coverage that's not through their site?

It’s the Herald Sun game of the round so only streamed via their site. Unfortunately I had to sign up on their $1 a week plan just to watch it.

Has been thrown in the ruck and forward in the second half but Oakleigh has been smashed.

Just a very nice contested mark inside 50 about 30 out and converts for the goal. Shifter Sheehan on commentary very effusive in his praise.

With the exposure he’s getting and a lot of scribes pumping him up, I guess we should be very, very happy. Whilst acknowledging our first rounder is going on him and needing to execute a couple of trades or let free agents walk to take the compo. No way around it it seems.

Dogs father-son prospect reveals secrets to development

THE WESTERN Bulldogs have benefited from the father-son rule as much as any club, and they are set to get another young gun at this year's NAB AFL Draft.

Sam Darcy, the son of former Bulldogs ruckman and 226-gamer Luke, has enjoyed a strong draft campaign so far in 2021 that has seen him rocket into top-five considerations.

The 205cm prospect and likely early pick joins this week's Road to the Draft podcast to discuss his hopes of joining the Bulldogs, where he sees his future as a player and how mindfulness is playing a role in his development.

Also on this week's show, Cal Twomey and Nat Edwards discuss the latest performances from gun draftees around the country, a preview of the under-17s and under-19s NAB AFL Championships and should the father-son rule change?

    LISTEN HERE

    This week's episode guide…

1.00 - Nick Daicos racked up 37 disposals as the NAB League returned to a full slate.

5:15 – A gun midfielder likened to Jacob Hopper returns from injury to star in his first game in months.

8.00 - Joshua Browne dominates in the WAFL while a Port Adelaide father-son prospect turns it on in the SANFL.

11.15 - Previewing the Vic Metro v Vic Country U17 and U19 clashes.

16.30 - Should the father-son bidding rules change?

21.30 - Sam Darcy from the Oakleigh Chargers joins the show.

27:50 – Darcy shares the advice from his father for this season plus the focus on mindfulness this season.

31:00 – The lessons Darcy has taken from training alongside last year's No.1 pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

Damn he said he prefers being a forward/ruck than a defender/ruck.

Great interview (7 minutes or so) if you want insight on him. I won’t give any spoilers. Good listening.

    Darcy must be growing rapidly.

The start of the season he was referred to as 203 and now listing at 205. Trending to be 210 by the start of next season.

Is it just me or does he sound a lot like Matthew Richardson during the interview? (voice wise).

Apparently Shifter was on SEN pumping up Darcy, likened him to Harris Andrews. If you could pick one player in the league to insert in our side, it would probably be Andrews...don't do this to me Shifter.

With English as a ruck/forward, does Darcy HAVE to become a ruck/defender to crack our side?

Scouting notes from Draft Central: https://afl.draftcentral.com.au/2021...-boys-round-9/

    #14 Sam Darcy

The rapidly rising Western Bulldogs father-son prospect further solidified his claims to the best key position prospect in the pool, with a strong display where he was put into a few different spots. Starting the day in the defensive 50, Darcy looked clean throughout, showing off some clean pick-ups below his knees early on where he followed up with good use by foot, usually into central spots to keep the ground open for Oakleigh up ahead. In the second quarter he seemingly couldn’t drop anything, holding onto the ball overhead even when there was heavy contact, or in pack situations. It was impressive to see his confidence to take the game on following his marks, happy to play on and get past or around opponents to get extra distance and penetration on his kicks. He played a little more in the ruck in the third term where his height was too much to deal with for Northern, directing the ball well from the taps clear from his opposition ruck. In the forwardline, he presented well even with a heavy lockdown focus from the opposition, getting himself a goal in the fourth term.
