    Khamis commits for 2021

Emerging defender Buku Khamis has extended his stay at the Kennel.

The Category B rookie will call VU Whitten Oval home for a third season, after re-signing with the Western Bulldogs for 2021.

A product of the Bulldogs’ Next Generation Academy, Khamis is yet to debut at AFL level but has taken great strides since joining the Bulldogs at the end of 2018.

Buku has the attributes to be an AFL player. He’s a good size, he uses the ball well and he has improved his running capability.
    - General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power

“Buku’s development throughout 2020 was really pleasing,” General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, said.

“We saw this especially in the second half of the year, where he played some strong football in the scratch matches.

“Buku has the attributes to be an AFL player. He’s a good size, he uses the ball well and he has improved his running capability.

“We believe he will only continue to improve over the next 12 months.”

Khamis, a refugee from South Sudan, arrived in Australia in 2006 and began his football journey in the Bulldogs’ western suburbs heartland, with St Albans and the Western Jets.

The 20-year-old has also made an impact off-field in his time as a Bulldog.

He won the John Schultz Community Award in 2020 for his role as a mentor with the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation’s GOAL Mentoring Program and as part of the Foundation’s African Action Plan working group.

Thank goodness the club finally acknowledged the existence of Buku!

He really needs to debut in 2021 to continue on the list you would think.

    Bulldogs lock in Cavarra, Hayes

The Western Bulldogs will add Ben Cavarra and Will Hayes to their rookie list for 2021.

Cavarra and Hayes were originally delisted when the Bulldogs made their first list lodgement on November 25.

But under a new AFL rule for next season, each club can add two primary-listed players from 2020 to their rookie list for 2021 prior to the draft period, with the Bulldogs committing to the two mature-aged players.

Cavarra made his AFL debut in 2020, after joining the Bulldogs with pick 45 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft from Williamstown in the VFL.

The 24-year-old small forward kicked four goals from his three senior games last season.

Hayes played two senior games in 2020, with the 25-year-old taking his career-tally to 11 matches.

The hard-running midfielder was selected with pick 78 in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft, from the Bulldogs’ VFL side.

“Both Ben and Will had to work extremely hard for an opportunity at AFL level and have been great additions to our playing group,” General Manager of List and Recruiting, Sam Power, said.

“Ben had a small taste of senior football this season and impressed with his forward pressure. Will’s ability to cover the ground is elite and he has shown promise over the past two years at AFL level.

“Through this new rule, it’s pleasing we’re able to provide them the opportunity to continue their journeys with the Bulldogs.”

The signings of Cavarra and Hayes means the Bulldogs will enter next week’s draft period with 39 contracted players – 34 primary-listed players, four category A rookies and one category B rookie – plus a commitment to re-draft Roarke Smith.

Up to three picks. JUH and MacPherson probably two of them. So one late pick or we grab a DFA instead.

Good chance, I can find no footage of his football games anywhere or even an interview.

Yeah they stabbed Treloar in the back to create enough room to lure over a captain of another club. I don’t buy it. In saying that, they probably did what they did knowing they were a good chance of getting a great player. Just don’t think it’s Bont. He’s not that kind of guy to ditch the team he’s captaining. I’ve heard it could be Petracca.

Petracca, Cripps or Bont are the 3 names being tossed around by a few in the media circle. I'm not TOOOO worried about Bont walking away, but god I want him locked up already on a bulletproof deal until his retirement.
