Bankers and Anchors: Rnd 23, 2019 vs Adelaide

This is the round 23, 2019 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Adelaide is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    B

    Bailey Dale - 5 Goals
Josh Schache - covered an enormous amount of ground, relief rucked and kicked 2 goals
100 Club - Macrae, Bonts & Dunks combined for 100 disposals as the engine room (Hunter with 30 also

    A

Happy Anchor - Bailey Dale - Could've had 7+ today son. It was falling in your basket all day.
Mercy rule umpiring - no fifties for cheap shots after marks, and refused to penalise throwing or illegal disposal.
Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023

    Bankers

Macrae was just a 4 Qtr juggernaut.
Duryea, Suckling and Crozier in defense a very creative and defensively solid unit
    Dale 5 nice goals

    Anchors

Dale is gonna feature on Dunstall's 'dribble file' tonight for sure.
Young - was strong overall, but can be casual at times.
Would've been nice to really hold the foot on the throat for 4 quarters.

Bont is just at another level when it comes to ball use and general ability. The guy can football.
The three-headed left footed monster known as DuCroLing were rock solid.
Bailey Dale’s finishing ability & goal sense is critical to our success - who would have said that 10 weeks ago.

    A

English was well and truly beaten today. Looked off all day.
Richards is treading water and I’m finding it hard to understand what he’s giving us.
The ruck match up was weird all day. At one stage in our forward 50, we had Dunks going up against Jacobs with English in the sweeping role just outside the 50 arc. Macrae also had to take it a few times.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Thought Richards with his pace and English with a few big grabs both had some good moments today, comrade.

Where does Daniel fit into that?

    I dunno.

Agree. Thought both did some good things today. Richards has some explosive pace. Just needs to be more consistent during the course of a game.

Richards used his pace well to advantage, but his use by foot was poor at best.... and he only had it 11 times which isn't enough for an offensively minded player.

    Thought English was OK.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

    Bankers

    * Dale is starting to get more consistent - 5 great goals, could have been 8
    * Bont's passing was superb at times
    * First quarter start killed the game

    Anchors

    * some junk time goals each quarter to let them creep up on us.
    * Mclean, Hayes, Richards, in the first half hardly touched the ball
    * Defending on Tex and allowing 5 goals

    Bankers:

Bont - talk about taking it to bank, that he would stand up and be best on ground in a game like that where we needed to win. Very predictable.
Macrae - very clean hands all day. Just looks so up for the fight at the moment. Surely gets his first AA nod.
JJ - really hitting some great form. Unusual for him to miss shots on goal - but 8 score involvements as a half back and has such a huge impact on how we play.

    Anchors;

Don't really have any anchors. Yes there were some missed chances and a couple of flat spots, and some quiet players - but everyone had good moments, and it was an easy day as a supporter when the game is essentially over 15 minutes in.

    Bankers

    1. Winning elimination style games over and over again. Good practice for "elimination" finals.

    2. Taking the game away from Adelaide early. It's easier to defend a lead than to play catch up footy.

    3. Scoring heavily. We have struggled in this area for a couple years. It's good to see we have ticked over the scoreboard in this second half of the season.

    Anchors

    1. Junk time goals. It's a little harsh because the job was done and our ladder position couldn't change whether we won by a point or 100 but it would've been nice to bury them and send out a warning to the rest of the 8.

    2. Allowing them marks on the goal line. Happened too many times.
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!
