McGuire stepping down as President of Collingwood
Like him or hate him but I think few could argue that he turned Collingwood around once he arrived as President
He might have also overstayed his welcome for the last 3 or 4 years but I would imagine there are some very sad Pies supporters today
Eddie McGuire will step down as Collingwood president at the end of the 2021 season.
McGuire, who has held the role at the club since 1999, made the bombshell announcement during Collingwood’s Annual General Meeting on Monday night.
Reportedly holding back tears as he made the decision public, McGuire will finish up after over two decades at the helm.
He had come under pressure in recent weeks on the back of an off-season which saw the club trade four senior players, headlined with Adam Treloar’s high-profile move to Western Bulldogs.

I think he has done wonders for the club and the game in general ... he will be missed by quite a few. (probably not Malthouse though)

Re: McGuire stepping down as President of Collingwood
Looks like a mass exodus of club president as Geelong's is going too.

Talk about a miss leading headline.

Re: McGuire stepping down as President of Collingwood
Just after the draft I was told something similar by an old and unhappy Collingwood member.
He said he new a bit about the inside workings at the Pies and there is a lot of disgruntled people at the club.
As he always says a lot and is an old bloke who rambles a bit, I thought he was FOS, who new its the one time I should have listened.

Re: McGuire stepping down as President of Collingwood
McGuire has been a full on embarrassment to the club and the competition for years now. I am obviously shattered to see him go.

So, which club president is going to step up to be the super funny club president now, the kind that jokes about Goodes being an ape and jokes about drowning female journalists?

Is Jeff Kennett still Hawthorn president?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

He really has said some stupid things over the years, including recently about us and the Treloar salary saga. He is a very passionate Collingwood man, which is what you do need in a President, but your responses to situations must be measured.

Re: McGuire stepping down as President of Collingwood
Putting a timeline on his tenure at the Pies as president, a month after stepping away from his regular radio slot. I'd put two and two together and come up with something wild if I had the energy, though I reckon he's just become an embarrassment to those who are close to him and clearly incapable of responding positively.
He has turned that place around, but he's made the process unbearable for pretty much anyone who doesn't barrack for Collingwood in the process save one or two gestures of humanity.
Let's see what happens with that club from here.

Will never forgive him for taking over Olympic Park

Re: McGuire stepping down as President of Collingwood
Look, I can't find it but I seem to recall Eddie McGuire working with David Smorgon to do previous projects in the past.
Eddie might put a boot in his mouth now and then and do what's best for Collingwood and who wouldn't.
I think he's done his best for this club and I don't mind him.
Wish him the best and curmudgeons too bad. He's mainstream, a bit of a twit at times but seems genuinely himself and has represented the game as best he could.

I wonder how long before he announces he and his wife have split?
