Actually Sheedy and his enormous ego are a big factor in their decline over the last 20 years. The years from 2003-2006 were the lost years, where the club got comfortable and Sheedy was phoning it in. He stayed on 3 years too long and the playing list was not refreshed anywhere near enough in that time.

They were arrogant enough to think that the salary cap didn't apply to them too. Up until they lost those three players in the early 200s. They flat out cheated their way to the 2000 premiership and the '93 premiership is tainted too.
Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again, Dougal!?

Long may they struggle. A stain on the league and the game more broadly.

Why is the 93’ flag tainted?

Found guilty of cheating the cap. They also cheated the cap in 2000 with the Lloyd and Hird domain names fiasco, so their last legitimate premiership was 35 years ago.

AFL too gutless to take away premierships for cheating, unlike the NRL

Even then they had Merrett running around whacking blokes when the ball was 50 metres away.

So now they have Hibberd in for surgery and Danaher still can’t get right , with a coach that has no future at the club I can only see them sliding.

Please disregard above post (unless you believe Essendon should be composted).

I thought Hibberd was a good pick up for them, especially after losing Myers last year.
Daniher is a real worry. Third year virtually being out of the game. They turned down two first rounders for him - yet we pick up Bruce with a second, on lower coin. Amazing.

Massive house burning down "this is fine" moment for them. Play hard ball to retain someone who doesn't want to be there to send a signal to all and sundry that they're tough and everything will turn out for the better.
