Paul Williams is to Jason Tutt what Chester Copperpot is to One Eyed Willy.

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs: Cody Weightman

In terms of debuts, here's one old timers will remember: the Mother of all Debuts - Carl Ditterich v Melbourne in 1963. The "Blond Bombshell." 17 yrs old. I can still see the picture that was on the front page of the Hun. Carl leaping high over Trevor Gleeson at a ruck contest. John Coleman's debut was pretty decent but before my time.
I don't think I've ever seen a better mark, first kick, first goal than young Cody's. Gotta love the kid. Happy days ahead. He's a goer for sure.

Fact of the matter is he hit the scoreboard and could have been a game high scorer in a debut game. He's no Jason Tutt, sure, but he almost got there.

As an aside, Tutt got 26 touches and kicked four......and didn't get the rising star nomination. What a *!*!*!*!ing disgrace. It's literally the best debut of the modern era.
Comparison to Concrete Hands is not appreciated

We want Cody to improve on a bright start.

He did get involved well with pressure. Might need to learn when to stay on the ground and let the big boys go for the marks, but he also needs to be encouraged to play to his strengths and the ability to take a mark is clearly one of those strengths. he just needs to find the balance.

He added a bit to the forward line and his first goal was a special one mind you the 2nd goal was also a good one
Shame he missed the set shot

Hopefully he can continue to hit the scoreboard in the coming weeks

I'm probably going to be on my own with this view but as exciting as it was to see him kick the 40mtr goal, I actually would have preferred he nailed the set shot.

I just want players to get those set shots. I'm not minimising how exciting that goal was but for me it was offset just a bit by the missed set shot.

18 years old , first game , Adrenalin through the roof, hits a blinder, Rips a beauty on the run on a second effort ,and misses a set shot , your a hard man.

No need to be like that.

Definitely some rookie era Dahl vibes about him with his energy but much better disposal and overhead. Exciting addition to the side.

I agree, his second goal was very Dahl like. Dahl was a freak at getting the ball from hands to feet in a split second. Cody has it too it would seem.

Cody knows where the goals are . I’m not sure Dahl had/has that skill.

There is certainly no way that Dahl could have kicked a goal from where Cody scored his first.

That was well beyond Luke's distance range.
