    Re: Injury List - 2020

That’s an extremely small list but then again no chance of getting injuries when the reserves aren’t playing.

Scans to confirm Naughton, Lloyd injuries

The Western Bulldogs will be sweating on the results of scans, after injuries to important forwards Aaron Naughton and Sam Lloyd.

Naughton (ankle) and Lloyd (shoulder) both went down as the Bulldogs recorded an impressive win against the Sydney Swans at the SCG to get their season back on level pegging at 2-2.

Both looked dangerous early – slotting a goal apiece – before their nights were ended early.

Naughton was ruled out by quarter time, with Lloyd playing very little part in the game after half-time.

“Aaron’s got an ankle (injury) – I’m not sure of the extent of the injury – and Sam’s shoulder, I’m not sure if that’s clavicle or rotator cuff,” coach Luke Beveridge said post-game.

“Both are ‘wait and sees’ for next week.

“He started the game off in good fashion tonight, Naughts, and he looked really threatening.

"We will miss him, but we'll find a way, someone else will come in and play a role.

“Maybe there’s a miracle and he plays next week, who knows, but if he’s out he’s going to be a difficult player to replace.”

The Bulldogs will have a nine-day break to prepare for their next game, against North Melbourne next Saturday night.

One positive is they do have replacements waiting in the wings if required, including Billy Gowers and sharp-shooter Tory Dickson - who was an emergency this week – plus tall targets Josh Schache and Lewis Young.

At least it's not a knee for Astro. Both will be back.

Dogs fans: Surely we won't pick Gardner and Gowers again!

Bad but not as bad as I first thought when I saw game. Naughts will be raring to go upon his return. Gives others a go so that’s kind of a silver lining. Hope Schache gets a run and can prove his worth.

Sour note from last night but they will be back raring to go before we know it.

Not ideal given the shortened season. It is frustrating that’s for sure.

    Re: Injury List - 2020

    Lengthy layoffs for Lloyd, Naughton

The Western Bulldogs are preparing for life without important forwards Aaron Naughton and Sam Lloyd for at least the next month.

Both were injured in Thursday night’s win against the Sydney Swans, with Naughton undergoing surgery on Saturday and Lloyd set for surgery today.

Lloyd (38 goals) and Naughton (32 goals) were the Bulldogs’ two leading goal-kickers in 2019, and are recovering from a broken collarbone and ankle syndesmosis injury respectively.

“We will confirm Sam’s timeframe for recovery following the surgery, but expect him to miss the next 4-6 weeks,” medical services manager, Chris Bell, said.

“After working through a process with Aaron, we decided that surgical intervention would give us the best outcome.

“We will continue to work with Aaron over the next few weeks to lock in a return to play timeframe, but expect him to miss 6-8 weeks.”

However, the Bulldogs could have experienced pair Easton Wood (quad) and Lin Jong (Achilles) available this week, plus small forward Ben Cavarra (hand).

Jong missed the win over the Swans, after playing the two previous matches.

“The day before the game last week, Lin came to the club and reported that he had developed Achilles soreness,” Bell said.

“That soreness has been improving over the last few days, and we will make a decision on Lin’s availability towards the end of this week.”

Wood and Cavarra both took part in a game-like session on the weekend, and will be available if they get through training this week.

    Injury list

    Ben Cavarra (hand) available
    Easton Wood (quad) test
    Lin Jong (achilles) test
    Taylor Duryea (quad) 2-3 weeks
    Sam Lloyd (collarbone) 4-6 weeks
    Josh Dunkley (ankle) 5-7 weeks
    Aaron Naughton (ankle) 6-8 weeks
    Riley Garcia (knee) indefinite

    Re: Injury List - 2020

In a bit of good news looks like Ziebell won’t play for North, so we shouldn’t have to add any concussions from players getting run over with their heads over the ball to this list next week.
