Fingers crossed it stays that way
It never does though
Hamstring injuries sideline Vandermeer, Wood
Hamstring injuries to Laitham Vandermeer and Easton Wood will see the Western Bulldogs forced into two changes for Sunday’s all-important clash with the West Coast Eagles.
Both were injured in the first half of last week’s narrow loss to the Cats.
Vandermeer will miss the rest of the home-and-away season, with a moderate grade injury expected to sideline the exciting speedster for six weeks.
The prognosis is more promising for Wood, with the experienced defender to miss just two-to-three weeks with a low grade injury.
“In a contest, Laitham got a push that caused him to over-stretch his hamstring,” medical services manager, Chris Bell, said.
“This has caused a moderate grade injury and he’ll miss the next six weeks of footy.”
“At the end of the second quarter, Easton came off and reported some low-level hamstring tightness.
“We removed him from the game because we didn’t want to take any risk and scans have since confirmed that he does have a low grade hamstring injury.”
Young midfielder Callum Porter has also made progress with his groin injury and is aiming for a return next week.
Injury list
Callum Porter (groin) – 1 week
Lin Jong (ankle) – 2-3 weeks
Rhylee West (groin) – 2-3 weeks
Easton Wood (hamstring) – 2-3 weeks
Laitham Vandermeer (hamstring) – 6 weeks
6 weeks that's a proper hamstring. He's had some bad injuries already so early in his career.
Wood a chance to face Hawks
Experienced defender Easton Wood will be a test for Sunday afternoon’s must-win clash against Hawthorn.
The 31-year-old picked up a low-grade hamstring injury in the opening half of the Western Bulldogs’ narrow loss to premiership contender Geelong two rounds ago.
However, his rehab program is going well, and he could be a chance to be fit to return against the the Hawks in Adelaide this week.
“Easton continues to make great progress following his hamstring injury,” medical services manager, Chris Bell, said.
“He still does have some boxes to tick before we determine his availability, but we expect to have these answers by the end of the week.”
With a clean bill of health at both AFL and scratch-match level over the weekend, the Bulldogs expect to have only a handful of players unavailable for selection this week.
Injury list
Easton Wood (hamstring) – test
Callum Porter (groin) – 1 week
Rhylee West (groin) – 2-3 weeks
Lin Jong (ankle) – 2-3 weeks
Laitham Vandermeer (hamstring) – 3-5 weeks
Our defence was the most balanced it has been in weeks vs Eagles. The only spot Wood can take is Cordy’s and he was pretty good, so Easton shouldn’t come in.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.
From Stevo:
Bulldog Lin Jong has left the Gold Coast. Sadly just couldn’t get ankle right for a tilt at it. Was in great form pre-injury

Yep. Ruled out for 2020.
Interesting they said he gets a full pre-season this way. Hopefully it is with us.

Bulldogs prepare for McLean diagnosis
The Bulldogs are bracing for bad news on the damage to midfielder Toby McLean’s right knee.
The Western Bulldogs are bracing for bad news on the damage to Toby McLean’s right knee.
McLean was left on the Adelaide Oval turf in agony after having his leg caught under the weight of a tackle from Hawthorn ruckman Jonathon Ceglar, just a few minutes into Sunday’s game.
He had started the brightly, slotting the game’s first goal inside the first 30 seconds.
Sadly, his afternoon – and almost certainly his season – came to a heartbreaking end only a few moments later.
The Bulldogs will confirm the extent of the injury in the coming days, with McLean likely to head home to Melbourne to receive treatment.
Travelling emergency Pat Lipinski sat with the 24-year-old in the changerooms throughout the Dogs’ comfortable win over Hawthorn.
“As you’d imagine, he’s a bit of a forlorn figure, as are many of his team-mates,” coach Luke Beveridge said after the game.
“When one of our boys go down like that, there’s an emotional coming together.
“He’s a resilient character, Toby. He’s been through a lot in his life, not just his footy career.
“We’ll get him through. We’ll support him.
“If it is as serious as what it might be, he’s still got many years ahead of him, and hopefully many productive years as a Western Bulldogs player.”
"Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"
I wish Toby all the best and a speedy recovery.

Scans confirm ACL injury for McLean
Western Bulldogs midfielder-forward Toby McLean has suffered an ACL injury to his right knee.
The 24-year-old had his leg caught under a tackle in the opening minutes of Sunday’s 36-point win against Hawthorn at Adelaide Oval and was stretchered from the field of play.
“Scans have today confirmed Toby has sustained an ACL injury,” medical services manager, Chris Bell said.
“Toby will return to Melbourne today and have a surgical opinion over the next couple of days to determine the best course of action for him.”
McLean has been an important player for the Bulldogs this season in his 12 AFL matches – including a best-on-ground performancein last week’s narrow win against the West Coast Eagles.
Senior coach Luke Beveridge acknowledged McLean would be difficult to replace.
“He’s versatile, he’s been important with some of the roles he’s played this year,” Beveridge said post-game.
“He’s a resilient character, Toby. He’s been through a lot in his life, not just his footy career.
“Tobes will be okay. We’ll get him through, we’ll support him… He’s still got many years ahead of him, and hopefully many productive years as a Western Bulldogs player.”
Wood in frame for do-or-die Dockers clash
Injury news on Easton Wood, Toby McLean, Lin Jong, Cal Porter and Rhylee West
The Western Bulldogs will be hoping to have Easton Wood available for selection for Sunday night’s season-defining clash against Fremantle in Cairns.
Wood has missed the Bulldogs’ wins against the West Coast Eagles and Hawthorn, after sustaining a hamstring injury in the round 15 match against Geelong.
But he’s ramping up his rehabilitation program and will be a test to face the Dockers.
“Easton continues to make great progress following his hamstring injury,” medical services manager, Chris Bell, said.
“He completed a game-like rehab session on the weekend and is planned to fully train this week.
“We’ll determine his availability towards the back-end of the week.”
Toby McLean (knee) and Lin Jong (ankle) have both returned to Melbourne, after season-ending injuries.
McLean will undergo a traditional ACL reconstruction, while Jong will have surgery to resolve ongoing symptoms from his syndesmosis injury.
Emerging midfielders Callum Porter and Rhylee West have also been ruled out for the season, due to persisting groin issues.
“Unfortunately, time has run out to get them back up to AFL match fitness,” Bell said.
“We will now turn our attention to making sure that they have a full, uninterrupted pre-season campaign.”
Injury list
Easton Wood (hamstring) – test
Laitham Vandermeer (hamstring) – 2-4 weeks
Lin Jong (ankle) – season
Toby McLean (knee) – season
Callum Porter (groin) – season
Rhylee West (groin) – season
It's interesting that Laith is still listed as 2-4 weeks (indicating that they hope he would be available for a prelim? grand final?) but Rhylee and Cal have been ruled out for the season. I would have thought with a soft tissue issue, you would continue to rehab and see how it progresses as our finals push progresses. The grand final is still over a month away.
