    Re: Injury List - 2020

Most of the injury concerns for the Bulldogs have had time to heal over the past six weeks. Lin Jong (hamstring), Taylor Duryea (groin), Tom Liberatore (knee) and Pat Lipinski (concussion) all missed round one but should be ready to return when the season continues. Rhylee West (knee) should be a little longer as he recovers from the medial ligament he suffered in mid-March, while Riley Garcia (knee) will be given as much time as he needs to rehabilitate his ACL. - Jourdan Canil

Injury-hit rising star Aaron Naughton in doubt for Bulldogs’ season restart

Aaron Naughton is in doubt for round two after joining the rehab group when Western Bulldogs players returned to training this week ahead of the AFL season restart.

The rising star played in round one in March but he’s still sore, with the Dogs cautious due to his history of knee injuries.

The 20-year-old key forward suffered a left knee injury in last September’s elimination final defeat to GWS.

While he recovered from that lateral ligament problem to train in the pre-season, Naughton underwent an arthroscope on his right knee in February.

The Bulldogs are hopeful he will prove his fitness for round two - against an opponent to be named in the coming days - but there are no guarantees.

In better news, Tom Liberatore is a chance to play after he missed the opening game of the season.

But, as with Naughton, the club will take a cautious approach given the premiership midfielder’s wretched history with knee injuries.

The Bulldogs’ fit players resumed training this week without development coach Dale Morris and assistants Joel Corey and Jordan Russell.

The trio remain stood down amid the AFL’s COVID cash cuts that have reduced football department budgets across the league.

Beveridge remains hopeful there will be positions for the out-of-work coaches to come back to once league and club finances recover.

“(Morris) has got a really bright future as a coach,” Beveridge said.

“It’s just the first step on his journey and he’s constrained now, he’s not able to pursue that here at the moment.

“That’s probably one of the top-three most challenging days of my life, last Friday

Kind of a good demo of what they go through. This is a guy that played round one coming back from injury, yet is still in doubt for round two 2 months later as he comes back from the same injury. In a normal season he would've played about 8 rounds with that.

Not sure what it says about the decision to play him round 1 though.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Like most of his teammates, he played as if he didn't want to be there.

Jongy has been one of the better performers since the group returned but might have had a minor set back that will probably rule him out of round 2 considerations.

Very much a minor set back but yes he needs a bit of luck.
I'm guess here but it probably opens the door for Hayes to replace Hunter

Not too many excuses for us as the injury list is pretty good. We need to see on Sunday that midfield insanity come back with JJ ripping it up of half back.

    So Naughton is available?
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

    Wood, Cavarra hit by injuries

Important defender Easton Wood could miss up to a month after sustaining a quad injury at training last week.

The former skipper was on track to play in round two against St Kilda, before picking up the injury on Thursday.

Wood’s injury is similar to the quad concern sustained by fellow defender Taylor Duryea leading into the round two clash.

“Easton and Taylor have minor strains to a muscle in their quad that is responsible for accelerations and kicking,” medical services manager Chris Bell said.

“Both players are on track to return to playing in the next 3-4 weeks.”

Small forward Ben Cavarra will also miss a couple of weeks, after having surgery to repair a hand injury.

Cavarra was originally an emergency for round two, before being replaced by Toby McLean.

“Ben had his hand stood on during training on Saturday morning,” Bell said.

“This broke one of the bones in his hand, and he was required to have surgery that was completed yesterday. The surgery went well, but we expect Ben to miss the next 2-3 games.”

Roarke Smith, who was unavailable for round two will return to full training this week.

    Injury list

    Roarke Smith (soreness) – test
Ben Cavarra (hand) – 2-3 weeks
Easton Wood (quad) – 3-4 weeks
Taylor Duryea (quad) – 3-4 weeks
    Riley Garcia (knee) - indefinite
