Home made bulldogs
I remember the years when 70% of our list was western suburb footballers picked up from the FDL or VFA sides Sunshine, Yarraville and Williamstown.
Just wondering how many on our list are actually from the western suburbs nowadays, I know we can easily look up players where they are from but it’s harder now because they are usually named under the under 18 team, I just wonder how many actually grew up around the west..
Can anyone name any players who went to primary or high schools in the area?

Re: Home made bulldogs
Interesting thread ledge. I grew up in the east so a bit harder to answer this question. We have quite a few now playing for us from out my way.

I reckon Bubba Smith would have been the last real local boy (grew up walking distance fro the ground and came from a Footscray supporting family) to play for us.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Johnno I believe as well. I think he was originally from Hoppers Crossing.

Callan Ward was fairly local.

Re: Home made bulldogs
Ryan Gardner worked at the Railway Hotel in Yarraville when he got drafted. That’s pretty legit.

Re: Home made bulldogs
The most local I can think of would be the father sons like Libba, Wallis and Hunter, and West but I can't be certain

But did they grow up in the West ?
Lachie Hunter I am guessing would be from out my way as I see his dad at Macs hotel (Melton) sometimes.
I think Wallis old man runs Car dealerships in Werribee and Essendon.
Apart from that I have no idea if they live or grew up in the West.
Seems the western suburbs is represented by a team that has no individual of the West.
But I guess we knew that would happen once the draft was introduced and zoning was abolished.
I find it quite amusing when you look at the last video of Johnno plugging stand by the West.

Steve Wallis originally came from Leongatha, Libba's folks live in Brunswick which is where he grew up. It's a fair walk from either of those places to Whitten Oval.
Bubba copped enough shit for going to a private Catholic secondary school, but now most of the boys are from private schools

I dunno what (or how) you are driving Easty but Footscray to Brunswick is a lot more than 9 kms. Maybe by helicopter...

Tony Liberatore grew up in Brunswick. I think Tom grew up in Essendon as that’s where Tony has lived for quite some time.

His parents ran a fishnchip shop near Werribee race track when he was at the bombers so yeah he would be a western suburbs boy.
