I can remember back in the '80s Jack Dyer and Lou Richards and the footy media back then saying that there were too many rule changes, the game was stuffed and it should be like it was back in the '60s.

I collect old match reports (I download them from Trove onto my iPad. I have nearly 1000 at last count.) So far the earliest "it's not the same game it used to be back when football was perfect" newspaper report I have found is from the 1880s. I'm sure that earlier ones exist, I just haven't found them yet.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

You don’t lock down the population. You target the sub-population, the small minority of very vulnerable people, and do everything you can to shield them from this virus until it passes or the normal herd immunity that eventually will make it go away.

Lets look at Sweden then. They didn't lockdown but Sweden is a socialist country so by & large they heeded to the governments advice so it wasn't back to normal for them anyway. Even if you say they didn't lockdown, when you compare their numbers to others that did lockdown their numbers are not worse. So wouldn't that indicate lockdown has nothing to do with it? Japan didn't lockdown either by the way & nobody seems to be mentioning them.

I'm not sure i agree we are in a good position at all. We have little infection rates compared to others so when do we ever open up when we're walking on eggshells all the time? We've set our policy based on infection rates instead of hospital admissions. Yes we've had a growth in infection rates but thats more of a reflection on the amount of testing we're doing. Infection rates mean little, its how many are in hospital. You can have a million new infections but if thats little to no hospital admissions then thats actually a positive not a negative. The way we are doing it is to ensure we have no infections so we have no choice but to wait for the vaccine unicorn to fly into town.

The health implications in the US will be catastrophic. What you have to remember is there are millions of people out of work & with no health care. These people will not have enough money to pay their bills & provide food for their family. Your first line of defence is your immune system & what you put into your mouth plays a huge role in the quality of your immune system.

How can it not be a role of government health officials to recommend health advice? You have the Prime Minister advising the population not hoard buy. As i've said in my previous post there are studies that have shown vitamin D had positive results with influenza & another study that showed positive results with zinc, magnesium & vitamin D. There also good studies showing great results with hydroxychloroquine & vitamin C.

Time will provide the answers but unlike most i don't think we are doing much right.
You failed to mention Mexico and Brazil who are essentially taking the same line as Sweden, except Sweden is saying no to gatherings of more than 50 people. The rest is up to the Swedes. Anyway, Japan was one of the first countries to shut down to international travel.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Hydroxychloroquine combined with zinc has some really good results & vitamin C has been used separately by doctors successfully.

I'm not across every country & how they are fairing but the question still remains are the countries who have locked down have better results then the countries that did not?

Yes countries who locked down did significantly better.

All the Hydroxychloroquine stuff turned out to be proven rubbish, its why Trump has even stopped calling for it.

On the actual topic of football, the last few pages has been a good read. Thanks for sharing your line of reasoning mjp and whoever shared that quote from the cubs manager!

Now kind of raring to watch this weeks game.

Some ominous news out of China:

New swine flu with pandemic potential identified by China researchers

Pigs are good mixing vessels to produce human-2-human influenzas. Probably a matter of time before this one does.

2009 H1N1 pandemic was an odd one. Killed relatively few old people but lots of young people. Scared the shit out of people in the know like myself.

    Why?

2009 HiN1 is the grandson of H1N1 Spanish Flu. And if G4 is related to 2009 HiN1, then it could be the second grandson...

Plenty of doctors, nurses & other health professionals out there saying the same thing. Do you have issues with them because they are on a platform like youtube & not our televisions?

What about our government health experts? Their comments have to go through the politicians first. You can't have a spokesperson in an organisation making public comments that does not get the green light from the boss first.

Then why is there coronavirus still?

If Ashley and Martin have cured baldness why are there still bald people?

Honestly, piss off with this garbage.

You'd have to think banning all travel from China for the foreseeable future is being considered.

Rubbish! You had Prof Didier Raoult out of France treat 1061 patients all over the age of 74 & had 8 deaths at a mortality rate of 0.75%. He used this treatment in late Feb & many other doctors followed suit. The studies that come out to prove HCQ were rubbish. The first study was published in the Lancet & later retracted once people started delving into the data & realised it was basically a hoax.
Then there was the Solidarity study done by the WHO & the Recovery trail done in the UK by Oxford i think. The results have made HCQ look rubbish again. Well both those studies are using dosage rates that are upto 4 times higher the dosage rate Raoult was using & they were not paired with zinc either.
    Why would they do that?

I have learnt generally and from bitter experience that doctors are among the last ones you should trust. Or politicians. And particularly Big Pharma.

You can't trust The Age/herald or most of the of the ABC - just feed you the usual Big Pharma line. They were all appalling during the 2017 flu fiasco.

The odd ABC specialist program can be useful. Here's one about how they test Big Pharma drugs you use

Agreed - I thought this thread was meant to be about the Coronavirus impact on the AFL?
