Oh good. Extra time to let Friday eve's woeful outing fester in the guts like a dodgy kebab.

Ask yourself if shutting down everything for who knows how long is a reasonable measure when the consequences for the rest of population could be devastating?

    Hi Anfo 27.

Financial stimulus packages and welfare payments can help alleviate financial impact on business and families. The cost of not tightening up covid 19 restrictions would be even more catastrophic on both our national morale (surgeries delayed, medical fraternity exhausted, look at what’s happening in Italy where they are having to make the invidious and agonising decision on who will live and who will die), and our economy.

Bottom line is we can rebuild economy, it will be slow and no doubt cause pain to many. That’s better then a poorly contained pandemic which will cause widespread panic, possibly civil unrest and cost thousands of lives (many elderly and vulnerable and some young, healthy people too).

Hey Remi. As the tigers are still in rebuilding mode it would mean not seeing another 100 losses in a season, so i'm not unhappy about that. As all sport is stopped i can't see when they could possibly start again.

I'm also a Villa fan so i'm not sure what will happen there. If the season went on i couldn't see how we could possibly stay up. Maybe it helps Villa now.

This is crazy scary times! I really worry about friends & family & people everywhere because small business & medium business is in the toilet now. We are talking about crippling millions of Australians with many losing their jobs. We all have mortgages to pay, how do people meet their financial obligations?

All this because the government cares about the elderly & vulnerable. Well they never seemed to care about the elderly before this. I pray i'm so wrong & things go back to normal in a few weeks but the long game looks bleak.
Literally their core constituency is most at risk. You can bet your arse they'd do as much as they can to look after them (which is actually the right thing to do)!

It will be interesting to see the demographics of which type of voter is going to be worst hit by the inevitable recession, in lieu of it being largely geared towards hospitality and tourism industries in the first instance.

Anyway, I'm neither here nor there when it comes to whether the AFL should have played this weekend or otherwise. I think it's ultimately going to be an exercise in futility.

I work in the nursing field. I understand what you are saying and you are right, LNP governments has never cared about that particular constituency and never will despite their willingness to die on a hill for them.

It's a harsh reminder for all of us to take this threat seriously and further public displays like those clowns at Bondi over the last few days who flat out ignored the request of social distancing etc will mean the governments may need to take even further steps
I don't see the sense in pushing past the signs saying the beach is closed

The Hospitality industry is a huge employer and this is another massive hit to working families and students etc.

Re: Coronavirus: could the 2020 AFL season be called off?

This is the issue when you start at <500 and then have to work down to <100, and then down to <100 with caveats, now we're blaming a bunch of people in open air at Bondi.

    What a *!*!*!*!ing joke.

The government and anyone reasonably informed knew that <100 was the starting point if there needed to be a build up to what we have now.

Love the young people bashing that's been engaged in as well. These are the people who are going to feel the brunt of unemployment in lieu of them fielding the majority of jobs in cafes, pubs, and tourism. What a kick in the guts to be told it's your fault we're having to do this, and by the way, eat shit you're up first.

Anecdotally I know that it is younger people who are leading the charge in terms of educating their families on the seriousness of this pandemic. I really feel for them.
