How many live matches have we seen at the Whitten Oval?

For some woof fun just curious how many actual live games including not just AFL, AFLW, VFL (including the new Footscray vfl team), VFLW AFL/VFL pre season games etc have we seen at WO.

Re: How many live matches have we seen at the Whitten Oval?

Me between 1-10. 2 pre season games and only a handful of recent Footscray VFL games over the years. So basically all types of matches not just senior matches at the ground we have seen live.

2015 AFL pre season - Bulldogs v Tigers we won
2017 AFL pre season - Bulldogs v Demons we lost
2017 VFL season - 2 VFL games when we beat Werribee but lost to Williamstown which was in the final round

So only 4 AFL pre season and VFL so far for me and 0 actual live AFL games there for points as we haven’t played there for points since the late 1990s.

I dunno what the equation would be. How many years have I been going to 20+ games a year? I've been going full time since the mid seventies? say 45 years X 20 games = 900 odd games? Sounds about right, halve it and knock a quarter off for Marvel, Optus home games-maybe 375-400 games at Whitten Oval. I'd love to know what my win/loss ratio is?
Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again, Dougal!?

If only we played 20 games a year at the Western Oval. Top four each and every year.

Went to the Doggie's home games from early 60's to 1997. Missing an average of one game per year I would say although for a 8 year stretch it was every game. Too many to count. Many great memories.

I'd say I'd have gone to 10 games a season from 89-96. Have probably gone to a further 20 VFL games. So I'm probably just short of 100.

You got to see Ted Whitten play B4L. Would have been cool to see Ted in action.

Yep could have made it into a fortress like Geelong have with Kardinia Park but ultimately we didn’t go down that path.

We won more than we lost there.

We had some huge crowds there and I don't know how we fitted them all in:

Started going as a 7 YO in 1985, went to a lot of home games in that stretch with the family but not all. Probably just shy of 100.

Don't reckon I missed too many Optus Oval home games in the late 90's, was a young adult and really enjoyed those days.

Re: How many live matches have we seen at the Whitten Oval?

We lived not far from the ground, first in Wales st, then Barkley St, (West of the ground.)

My earliest memory is sitting on my fathers shoulders watching the game. We left Wales st when I was 4, so not much of a memory. I know we went to home games when I was living in Barkley st from age 5 onwards (1961).

When we moved to West Sunshine in 1963, I am not sure how many games I went to, but I do recall from 1967 to 1991, I hardly missed a game. From the 1992 season to 1996, I only saw about 5 or 6 games as I was living and working in Asia.
