    This from the club website

    David Darcy

    David-Darcy-Mobil.jpg?width=952&height=592.jpg

David, the father of former Dogs’ captain and current Director, Luke, died on Saturday, aged 76.

David Darcy played 133 games and kicked 47 goals for Footscray in two stints, from 1963-66, and from 1968-71.

He represented Victoria four times, and also spent four seasons with South Adelaide in the SANFL, including two years as captain-coach.

David’s career at the Bulldogs allowed the Club to use the father-son rule to recruit his son Luke in the 1992 AFL Draft. Luke went on to enjoy a brilliant 14-year career in the red, white and blue.

The Club would like to express its sincere condolences to the Darcy family during this difficult time.

Very sad news. My brother, who passed away in April, went to school with David at Our Lady's in Sunshine. He was a lovely person. I usef to see him at church. Terrific player for us. An attacking full back, beautiful kick, strong mark, not afraid to play in front. Bit of a swing man too and played CHF when required. Condolences to the Darcy family.

    Re: RIP David Darcy.

David rented an apartment from my mate due to the location. He wanted to buy it but my friend wanted to keep it . My friend said tonight he knew David was sick awhile ago but thought he had got better.

NBP spoke with Dave for a good hour or so on Wednesday and didn’t realise he was sick either.
Has come as a great shock.

    Condolences to the family.

RIP David. Saw him play some great games for us at full back. Beautiful drop kick. Pretty sure he came to us as a forward and yes as another has said became a swing man for us. Represented the Vics on a number of occasions too. Condolences to Luke and family.

David Darcy was a fine full back. John Schultz made the point yesterday that given his fine kicking it was easy to position yourself for his kick outs. I had only recently spoken to David at his home in Byron Bay where he was living with Luke's brother Mark.
They had appointed a General Manager to conduct the family's hotels in Melbourne. It was a tough week for the Club, as fellow back man John Bradbury's funeral was held just on Friday with John's eulogy been given by fellow player and close friend Ray Baxter.
Our thoughts and condolences are extended to both the Darcy and Bradbury families.

Fond childhood memories of David playing for the 'Dogs. Such a beautiful drop kick, when kicking out from full back. Sincere condolences to the Darcy family.

As a younger Bulldog supporter I really appreciate the stories woofers have who remember our old players in their prime.

Thanks for the great memories you've given doggie supporters David. I'm going to dig out your footy card and sit it on the mantle piece for the week.
