    A few stats:
    Age : 24
    Height: 187cm
    Weight: 87Kg
    Games: 33

Billy Gowers was selected by the Western Bulldogs with pick 9 in the 2017 NAB AFL Rookie Draft. After playing his junior football with the Oakleigh Chargers, Gowers spent two years on the rookie list at Carlton in 2015-16. Gowers signed with Footscray for the 2017 season, playing 16 VFL games for the Club, averaging 16 disposals, and five marks per match. Earning a second chance on an AFL list, Gowers made every moment of the 2018 count, after his debut in Round 1 against the GWS Giants. Playing forward, the son of former Hawk and Lion Andrew Gowers, played in 20 games and topped the club's goal-kicking (26 goals). Gowers’ 2019 season was split between the senior side and Footscray, playing 10 matches at AFL level and eight in the VFL.

He's close to being AFL standard but not really close enough

His 2018 season whetted the appetite but it's looking more like it was a flash in the pan

He's probably got just a couple of games to stake his claim from another contract

How many opportunities does he require?

He's had 3 games this year and hasn't had a positive influence on our performance in each of these games... It's time we move past Billy's ability to look good on the training track and judge him on his in-game efforts which have been extremely poor.

He is a player that never really looks to take the game seriously. With where he is at he would need to be one of the most determined bloke on the field - contest hard every time and really focus on “doing his bit”

This means not flying for unrealistic marks, astute focus at stoppages and contests to not give away silly free kicks and a real focus on the basics when he has ball in hand. He has shown some great glimpses of play - nice pick ups of contested ball, goals, strong marks, well placed aggression - early on but hasn’t developed at all from there.

Given what we saw this year - he has to be in the category of a huge question mark as to why he is still on the list.

If list sizes shrink I can’t see Billy remaining on the list, and he’s had enough chances that, for whatever reason, he’s been unable to capitalise on

I wouldn't think he requires too many at all but I suspect it's possible he will be given another chance before the seasons end

I love Billy and wish he'd make it, but his best football has been as a lead up option.
From 2021 who is he getting a game over in that capacity - Bruce, Naughton, a fit Schache, JUH, Dale?

Flogging the same poor horse is boring and unfair, at this point Gowers' cards are on the table for everyone and anyone to read. Should we delist him, who thinks another club would offer him a list spot?

Of course circumstances in 2020 are exceptional, but am more inclined to lament the fact we're giving him games is more reflective upon a club that can't produce better options, not least of all by cycling players through a forward fifty merry-go-round that's too often dysfunctional. Truly makes what Wallis has cobbled together down there doubly remarkable.

For mine, billy has been nothing more than country football standard. A flash in the pan year was just that, but the last 2 years, like Gardner, he’s completely lost and out of his depth. Delist.
I will never see #16 the same!!
