Blame the player or the manager?

Was reading about Norf's problems, mass delistings etc and telling Brown to piss off.

Allegedly North for months had an offer of three years at $750K a year on the table for Brown and he knocked that back.

That decision now looks pretty poor, but over the years there have also been some other pretty strange player decisions.

The player eg Brown now is often criticised but is that really fair?

Is it often actually poor advice by his manager?

    Pre-Covid $750k for Brown is a steal
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Brown is really a limited player, although very good and until this year effective.

Not sure he would ever have done as well with us playing the way he has at North.

Between Brown and his manager they have allowed greed to get in the way of security.

Going back a few years Dusty Martin tried the same with Richmond, but every other side was put off by the off field concerns and Martin had to back track to Richmond.

Sitting on the outside it is hard to know, but it does appear that some players have little concern for anything but themselves and don't understand that the money they demand puts salary cap pressure on other players at their club.

    Jeremy Cameron comes to mind.

Players should take control and also understand that the more they demand the less able the club is, in retaining the group that will bring success.

Are they focussed on success or finance.

I think some of the younger players are more likely to listen to their manager as they are inexperienced and maynot question them too much. With Brown, it could be a manager issue if the manager said he knows he can get him 4 years and x dollars at another club. Brown may listen to that and take his advice, but in the end , I think it may have been a bit of greed as BJ mentioned above.

    What a disaster for him.
