As he has said himself it's just about choosing the right times to fly and when to stay down. You don't want him competing in the air with our talls but there will be occasions in every game where he should launch. At least, like Naughton, he has the ability to remain in the contest even if the ball goes to ground.

‘Marra will be better’: Bevo backing top pick to fire against Suns

WESTERN Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge expects a more settled Jamarra Ugle-Hagan to take a step forward in his fledgling career against Gold Coast on Saturday.

Last year's No.1 draft pick made his long-awaited debut when he replaced star forward Aaron Naughton (concussion) in the side against Sydney last week.

The 19-year-old was not as clean as he would've liked and finished with just seven disposals in the defeat, but held his place in the team despite Naughton returning as one of four inclusions for the Suns clash.

With ruck Stefan Martin (groin) still out injured, Beveridge is eager to see how the 194cm Ugle-Hagan will work alongside fellow talls Josh Bruce, Tim English and Naughton in the front half of the ground.

"'Marra' will be better for the experience," Beveridge said.

"There's always a little bit of self-doubt and you're sort of on an edge in your first one.

"I'm sure he'll be a little bit more settled and hopefully he can get into the game early."

(Unless Smith really wants the mark again…)

Surely Lukosius gets JUH and just plans on running off him all day...I would think this is EXACTLY the match-up the Suns try to orchestrate???
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

Certainly possible but if we got that matchup, surely JUH just takes him to the goalsquare at every opportunity.

Good call, I'll keep an eye out for that move.

Looking forward to seeing JUH have another crack, hopefully as part of a better performed side on the day. I saw enough in his game to know he’ll be a good player for us. Let’s turn those half chance into scores on the board.

Bevo did the right move leaving him in. Marra glides…..looked every bit the number 1 draft pick. Could easily have kicked another 1 or 2 goals. Well done young lad.

I don’t think he will get it. Bergman had a very good game as did Sharp, but I’d love to see him get rewarded with a Rising Sun nomination. A fourth would’ve sealed the deal.

That’s not going to happen. Sharp was much better.
    BB.

Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.

Terrific to get on the scoresheet in the manner he did. A few really sound kicks up the field too. He has a very laconic look about him, in contrast to Naughty, but that flying mark he took was every bit the sign of an athletic, competitive, determined player.
