Disappointed West isn’t playing. We need to find out if he can actually play.
I also find it odd we play JJ all of 2019 & 2020 and now we suddenly decide he isn’t best 22.

Surely Dale will be a late out for West, JJ has to be the sub. could you imagine him burning the track when the rest are tired with a point to prove. These man still on the mark rules are perfect for JJ.
BB.
Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.

I note that both teams used their 23rd man tonight, neither for concussion. It will be interesting to see the injuries which warranted their usage, and whether the league judges the changes as fair applications of the rule.

Silvagni shoulder looked mild hard to tell.
Vlaustin a minor knee issue.
I'd say both probably would've played on if sub wasn't there.

It looked like the type of injuries the player goes to the room get a jab and some strapping and get back out there.
The AFL may say that this is player health and safety in that they don't go back out to further aggravate the injury.
I wonder if it's in the rule to swap the sub. In that if you have used the sub on a injury and then you get a player concussed does the injured player come back on with the Doctor writing a quick please explain certificate.

This is where the sub rule is crazy. If there's only one sub, what's really the point, as if you get a second injury or concussion, then you are short. If health and safety was really the focus, then there'd be no limit on the number of injured players that could be replaced. If they are genuinely injured, then they should be off.
Of course the new rule as it currently stands means the "genuine" aspect can be manipulated way too easily.

Can't see that happening. I am assuming Dale is in as a defender, a swap for West would leave us a defender short.

We have a number of players who can run off halfback though - Hunter can do it, Vandermeer can, and Treloar spent time at halfback in the VFL game.
If there is any position we can cover outside of the centre square it's halfback!
I think West is desperately unlucky. TBH I would have him in before JJ. In a pressure game every player needs to be able to defend.

West is in an unlucky position because the midfield is stacked, so he needs to make another role his own. In last weeks practise match, he picked up 14 disposals and didn't hit the scoreboard.
