Re: WB Game Day V Collingwood R1 2021

I agree that Scott looked solid, but adding him to an already inexperienced defence has the alarm bells going for mine. Whos barking orders on defensive set up ?

Going to be interesting how many over the back goals we get Friday night. Im slowly getting to the view that Naughty needs to place defence.

Not sure that's for his ability to manage our team defence though.

Typically Wood and Crozier have seemed to be best in this role, and Duryea seems decent at it as well looking in from the outside. None of the guys currently in the setup seem like natural leaders in this regard.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Players gave him that nickname for being General of the backline.

    That seems pretty conclusive then.

Interesting as he doesn't strike me as being the type. He seems to be more of an assertively quiet guy who stands in the corner and does his job.

So why did we not offload him at the end of last season? Surely we should have done so when his currency was high.

I think JJ is still a valuable player but the run he is noted for has been missing for a while now. He has never been all that good defensively not many of his tackles stick but his major asset is to clear the zone and that is not happening. It maybe due to him being sat on by the opposition and may be he hasn't worked out how to break free or the work rate isn't there to burn off his opponent.

JJ is another one of those 2016 players that hasn't got back to that level.

    Bevo loves his shiny toys.
He's pretty much got his wish list of something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue for round one

I wonder if Scott or O'Neill will the the 2021 version of Will Hayes?

What does it say about where a few guys on our list have moved behind the pecking order of McNeill and Scott, two newbies? in particular Richards, Hayes, JJ, Cavarra, Jong, Duryea, Roarke Smith.

I don't know, what does it say?

I don't reckon it's good that's for sure. Not for a side with expectations for winning a final. Either Scott and McNeill have performed off the charts... or the others have not measured up...
From what I saw from Scott and McNeill, they were good-ish... but they didn't exactly look like they were ripping the door off the hinge to get selected.

It's the Bevo way isn't it? He's always shown a desire to throw the speculative newbie in straight away rather than allow them to force their way in after strong performances against opposing teams.

With Hayes we made the hard call then added him back into the squad

He may lose interest in some of his toys but he isn't prone to start sharing them

    Bevo shows classic hoarder tendencies.

We have a Will Hayes and a Roarke Smith sitting in the cupboard.

I can occasionally look in and recall a day where they did something I liked and it makes me feel good.

With my new Anthony Scott and Lachie McNeill toys, I think they can do something that I will also be able to remember fondly before I store them in the same cupboard.
