Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 4, 2021 vs Brisbane Lions

This is the round 4, 2021 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Brisbane is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    B

    Good team defence effort
4-0 and top of the ladder
    Young impacting right away

    A

The turnover against Libba looked very soft to my eye
Vandermeer. Dumb frees and 50 again. Time to get disciplined
Would have liked to kill the game a little earlier.

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 4, 2021 vs Brisbane Lions

    Bankers

    1. Team first attitude. Hunter 10 tackles, Treloar 10 tackles, Macrae 8 tackles Dunkley 8 tackles, Libba 5 tackles.

    2. our defensive unit Young, Keath, Dale and Williams worked hard in the trenches.

    3. Timmy English is causing some real headaches for opposition coaches and is complementing Bruce and Naughts.

    Anchors

    1. Vandermeer, another undisicplined performance.
    2. Poor conversion from Naughts especially. Missed at least 2 he should've nailed.
    3. McNeal's execution in the last, had two free players and didn't get it near either of them.

    Bankers
    1. Tim English come on down
    2. Bailey Dale, excellent
    3. Defence stood up, big props Keath and Young

    Anchors
    1. What does Scott bring to our team? I don’t see it
    2. Vandermeer giving away dumb frees
    3. Libba, I love you but *!*!*!*!, what a dumb free to give away today.

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 4, 2021 vs Brisbane Lions

    Bankers

    - Tim English’s marking and kicking for goal
    - Adam Treloar, he looks to be thriving and add speed, hardness and quality disposal he is famous for
    - Lewy Young owning his selection and first game back in ages. So glad that first mark was paid as he didn’t look back

    Anchors
    - Libbas brain fade in the 3rd that gifted Bailey a goal and swung the momentum
    - our kicking for goal in the 3rd quarter - few chances to really ice the game and missed (very tough conditions granted)
    - The umpiring ALL DAY with holding the balls. So many chase down, strong tackle, blatant free kicks (to us) called as play on

    Bankers

    1. English's marking
    2. Macrae's great goal
    3. Naughton's marking and chasing and pressure acts were incredible for a big man

    Anchors

    1. Holding the ball. I didn't know if an attempt at disposal is counted as a disposal, because at least 4 or 5 times the Lions players missed their foot when tackled and not holding the ball or incorrect disposal awarded.

    2. Two Brain fades with Libba and Vanda giving away unnecessary frees resulting in two goals

    3. McNeil - I like the kid but as soon as he has the ball, he doesn't know what to do with it and turns it over.

    B:
Young, terrific performance from Lewis. He slotted into the backline and gave us plenty. Super impressed but not surprised.
English/Bruce/Naughton triple threat. A sensational mix today, underpinned by a real commitment to work hard.
Jack Macrae, his goal was superb. One of those games where his influence is much more tangible and direct than we sometimes acknowledge.

    A:
Robinson late hit on Williams. Was really poor form.
McSteal, a real “nearly” type. Has a good moment, but isn’t settling with the ball enough to cash in.
My decision to wear shorts. Knew better, did it anyway.

Mitch loves a cheap shot, actually it’s what he’s really good at... he’s hit on Dunks late in 2019 was just as cowardly and he needs to pull his head in.

He's an absolute flog. I can see him going down swinging in a GF if the Lions ever make one and they're stupid enough to pick him.

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 4, 2021 vs Brisbane Lions

    Bankers
Adam Treloar, his elite ability and being able to demonstrably become such a good team player in a short time.
Lewis Young, very good game, began from where he left off when last selected, should have been in the team much earlier and should now stay for an extended period.
Stef Martin, his strong efforts in the ruck are allowing Tim English (alongside Naughton and Bruce) to cause havoc up forward.

    Anchors
Scott and McNeil - we woofers are obviously blind to what the MC sees in them at this stage compared to West, Jong and Lipinski.
Vandermeer - out of form atm, missed 2 easy shots v North and is not disciplined to adhere to the 'stand' instruction.
Those who knock Tom Liberatore for just one mistake, he is our best in and under player, a clearance gun and has the fastest hands in the team.

    Bankers

    1. Young- the perfect game for him to make his claim for Gardner's spot. I liked how Gardner was progressing but for me Young's game yesterday was better than any game Gardner has played to date.

    2. English- held his marks kicked straight and was BOG. Good around the ground too.

    3. Beating a potential top 4 side on a deck that isn't really our home deck. We got the job done without them ever looking like it. Good job boys!

    4. On top still!

    Anchors

    1. Naughton- this is harsh because had Naughton kicked straight he would of been best on instead of English, but good kicking is good football. I'm Anchoring his kicking only, the rest of his game was sublime.

    2. Bevo- McNeil and Scott aren't quite up to it yet they are selected over others who deserve a chance from my POV.

    3. Vanders- everyone has an off day now and then (Caleb Daniel) but the undisciplined shit has to stop. But please don't stop playing on the edge!
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 4, 2021 vs Brisbane Lions

    Bankers:

English - huge game from Tim. Was the match winner for us.
Naughton - playing a true centre half forward. He really got us going with how he worked up the ground when we were into the breeze. He's a jet.
Young - was really important for him to come in and play that role well. Good teams have another 'soldier' come in and fill the role so the team doesn't miss a beat.

    Anchors:

Vandemeer - undisciplined game from him. Didn't quite get the balance right playing on the edge.
Last quarter our forwards seemed to get dragged up the ground too far. 20 inside 50s for very little return was a bit of a downer.
    Caleb getting suspended.

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 4, 2021 vs Brisbane Lions

    Bankers:

    - 3 tall forwardline. Naughton had 7 shots on goal, English led us for contested marks - the week after Bruce kicks 10. Each week it seems one of our guys will be too much for the opposition.
    - Game sense. In the second half Naughton went behind the ball during red time. We're finally doing it.
    - Dunkley is the greatest smotherer in VFL/AFL history

    Anchors:
    - If Daniel has played a worse game for the club, I don't remember it
    - Discipline has been a hall mark of our game under Bevo, some incidents cost us
    - Lack of crumbing forward. We're sacrificing a goal per week (at least) without a legitimate crumber.
