Round 1 - How have we gone?

Over the past 12 seasons we have won 7 Round 1 clashes & lost 5.

Interestingly we are playing the Crows for the 4th time in R1 since 1999.

What can you remember about some of these clashes?

Aside from the delirious carnivale-like atmosphere from pretty half-time onward, Richo being mercilessly jeered whenever he had the footy, and obligingly murdering the pill 90% of the time to the point where he was shifted to full back mid-game, with the piece de resistance being when skinny little Jordan McMahon wrapped him up in inglorious fashion for holding the ball. A most memorable evening.

I remember these 2. Geelong because we only won 3 that year and i though we would do well (being young) after winning round 1

Collingwood i went to and the MCG was still under construction. First year i started to really follow the footy

The Collingwood one I remember well as it was Easter Monday & hot. The Coon Pup was at Auskick & got to play on the MCG at half time in one of the grid games. He doesn't mind telling people he kicked 3 goals at the MCG!

Funny it says it was played on Monday

I remember when i played on the G. Kicked out of FB bout 9 times and about 5 were out on the full.

I may played that day too for my club the mighty Werribee Tigers U-14B's.

Was that Farren Ray's first win? I can't remember it that well, just a few random things.

My mates comment, "I picked Geelong for the flag this year. Boy, are we good!" In hindsight he probably went a bit early.

    2006 Western Bulldogs 6.4 9.11 18.13 25.17 (167) dftd Richmond 3.2 5.6 6.6 7.10 (52)
    It was beautiful.

We go with the small forward line and Collingwood have to leave Presti and Wakelin on the bench all day, then Buckley does his hammy. Pies run out of legs.

    2004 Western Bulldogs 7.2 11.6 16.11 20.17 (137) lost to West Coast 5.5 11.8 15.10 22.12 (144)
    "Rawlings will kick a hundred!!!"

Chris does his knee. I've never left a winning game so shattered.

    2002 Western Bulldogs 4.5 8.9 10.15 12.21 (93) lost to Adelaide 3.5 9.9 12.12 16.16 (112)
The most boring game ever? I don't remember a thing about it.

    2001 Western Bulldogs 2.4 10.6 14.9 16.11 (107) lost to St Kilda 5.5 9.6 15.11 16.16 (112)
Spider burnt us. From the boundary, on the run after a bounce, anything he wanted to do. Kingsley Hunter kicked goals, maybe?

    2000 Adelaide 3.2 9.11 11.13 15.18 (108) lost to Western Bulldogs 7.6 8.7 14.15 19.17 (131)
    1999 Adelaide 2.0 4.2 8.3 12.6 (78) lost to Western Bulldogs 4.5 6.8 10.12 13.13 (91)
Chris Grant is a star. One of these games was classic Grant but I can't remember which one. The one where it rained.

    1998 Brisbane Lions 3.4 6.5 7.8 10.12 (72) lost to Western Bulldogs 3.6 7.8 12.13 17.16 (118)
Got back from Canada about 5pm that night and went straight to the pub to watch the game. Don't remember anything other than it pissed down.

    1997 Western Bulldogs 0.1 5.6 10.6 11.10 (76) lost to Fremantle 3.4 5.8 6.13 10.20 (80)
Winston ****ing Abraham. Who would have thought what was going to come?

    1996 Brisbane Bears 4.4 9.7 15.11 21.15 (141) dftd Western Bulldogs 1.3 3.8 4.11 7.12 (54)
And it was no better the following week v North.

    Truly a wonderful night.

Was pretty happy with a 5 goal lead at half time.

Then, it happened. It rained goals.

Robbo kicked one over his head. Matthew Boyd ran right through the middle of a pack untouched for another, we went end to end with 4 possessions for another.

Big Brian gave Richo a bath. Richo gave himself a bath when he went back.

The pressure and tackling went right to the final siren.

    It was beautiful.

Re: Round 1 - How have we gone?

I remember listening to it live on radio, as we always have the delayed telecast on Friday night football. When I heard the score I quickly raced home to make sure I didn't miss any of it, fantastic game that one against Richmond.

Our encounter with Geelong last season left me very happy, I was convinced we were going places on the back of it.

It's interesting how often we've played Adelaide in first round matches.
