Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 21, 2021 vs Essendon

This is the round 21, 2021 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Essendon is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

    B

Bonts - He tried all day
Schache - Has more to learn but is adding something different at least

    A

    Bruce Right Foot - Putrid
No midfield pressure on their kicks into our defence. Hard to stop easy pin point passes
12 Behinds and 5-6 OOF. It’s not new, but it’s here to stay

B: Schache - needs Keath in the line up but playing much better than I thought he would
    Dale - beautiful ball use

A: Goal kicking from our 3 main forwards
Midfield - every time they let Stringer get the ball
Bruce - please let this not be a serious injury

    Bankers
Bailey Dale and Bailey Williams - combine well, kick beautifully
Hunter - good four quarter game
    Bruce - competed hard

    Anchors

Goal kicking - totally execrable There are no words
    Injury to Josh Bruce
Tim English - we have seen what you can do when you're up and about but you keep showing us what you can do when you're down and out. Why is that? I'm frustrated and losing patience.

    Bankers

Bailey Williams is starting to really get back into the groove.
Bont stood up and looked dangerous all game.
Bailey Dale never stoppoed running and trying to be creative out of defense

    Anchors

Our mids at centre bounces, lost us the game. I really don't understand why, when Essendon were getting on top there, either Libba or Macrae didn't position themselves more defensively at the contest. We had no one defending goal side of the ruck contest, and you could see it unfold as the ball went up in the air, Macrae and Libba both being too aggressive. I get Bont was too, and he got burned by Stringer a couple of times, but for me it's the others that should've been pushing more defensively to prevent it.

Our Goalkicking was putrid and cost us a the opportunity to salvage a win from that game. Bruce and Naughts on multiple occasions, Scott, Jamarra and English. We nail 3 of those and we scrape home.

Injury gods. Not the first time we've been kicked in the guts by the injury gods right near the siren. Murph's knee in the final play against the Hawks in 2016 comes to mind.

    Bankers
Bailey Williams, cool under pressure and rarely beaten.
    Lachie Hunter a consistent 4 1/4 game.
Bont, tried to lift the team but they didn't respond.

    Anchors
    The injury to Bruce.
Cordy - twice the ball came in early in the game and twice Francis goaled, it set the scene for the day imo. Cordy tries hard but is not and never has been a defender.
Goalkicking - you are paid well to be a professional footballer now start playing like one. Your inability to convert easy opportunities infuriates every supporter. Looking at you Naughton, Scott and Ugle-Hagan.

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Rnd 21, 2021 vs Essendon

    Bankers

    * JJ long goal when we needed it

    * Bont and Macrae giving their all and trying to lift the team.

    Banker/Anchor

    * Bruce's game in his 150th, unfortunately goal kicking was piss weak missing from 5 metres out three times and then the Knee.

    * A loss that we need to learn from come finals time. It doesn't just fall into place, we need to work hard for the entire 4 quarters.

    Anchors

    * Set shot goal kicking won it for Essendon and lost it for us - it was one of the worst displays

    * Centre Clearances - we are one of the top 3 in the AFL, and Essendon beat us to it.

    * Just losing to the team I hate the most.
