Bankers & Anchors: Elimination Final 2021, vs Essendon
This is the Elimination Final 2021 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Essendon is concluded post your nominations for:
The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play
Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.
Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.
The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

B
Cody - Superstar.
Schache - Helped Down back early on, hit the scoreboard.
Keath - Superstar.
Defence - Kept them to 4 Goals, 2 from 50m Penalties
Attack - 8 Unanswered Goals
A
The bullshit coverage by Fox. We had lost before the game started.
That we had to do all this the hard way. But we did.
Poor Essendon being the first goalless half of finals footy since 1956.

B: The ruck trio worked well
B: Weightman and Schache took their opportunities and hit the scoreboard
B: Easton Wood great game today; physically stood up and played his part
A: First half effort, especially the first quarter
A: VAndermeer needs to get involved more, he seems to have lost his attack on the man and ball.
A: Still concerned with our midfield and forward connect
More of an In Bruges guy?

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Elimination Final 2021, vs Essendon
Banker:
B: Selection today: Schache and Gardner.
MC having faith in keeping Young in the Ruck, and having the sense to rotate the role with English and Shache. I like this angry version of Young and his effort just needs to be consistent. We just need to halve these ruck contest to allow us to win more contested ball.
Schache needs to believe he belongs and start throwing his size around. His very agile for tall and is a beautiful kick.
Gardner is so important to us in the backhalf. There is a lot do not see on TV, but Wright was no where to be seen today.
Macrae in one of post match interview, mentioned they used Dunkley as tag on Parish when their players start getting on top. At least the MC learnt from last belting by the Dons.
B: the none stats: massive spoils in the backline numbers. Really repealed the Don's forward entries. Cody's smother in the first quarter.
B: Libba is a barometer. Massive possession today and willed our team forward.
B: Pressure from our forward was manic today. Cody was brilliant, Naughton presented all day, and his cat like pickup in the 4th quarter is uncanny. His agility is freaky. 3 goals to naughton was telling and the assists were Brilliant. Hannan was there all day, just his fumbling drives me nuts.
Anchors:
A: English is not a natural forward and he needs to start demanding the ball when he sits in the forward line. Not good enough. His goal post in the 2nd quarter , shows he needs to improve on his kicking action. His runup is off balance because he leans to his right which ends up hooking the ball.
A: Treloar and Dunks, switch on at the start and don't let your opponent have any room in finals. Dunks to his credit owned Praish in 2nd half. Treloar needs to play on instinct and stop trying to be fancy with the ball which ends up being fumble.

Brayshaw is Essendon centric and NACA.
Having to beat this mob in Tassie when we should have finished in 4th place but for a timekeeping error at the Gabba last weekend.

English’s first quarter was great. Kept us in the game. Faded a bit during the game but was still contesting and provided a supporting ruck role throughout the game.

Bankers:
Cody Weightman - 12 disposals 11 contested 4 goasl in a cut throat final
Josh Schache - 2 goals at important times - provided the 3rd tall that we needed
Bailey Dale - over 700m gained. Played a blinder in the wet
Anchors:
No-one - everyone put in a shift

Bankers
Cody - he is irrepressible
B Dale - played another blinder
E Wood - had a really solid game. All defenders were RESOLUTE.
Anchors
Nil from us
Commentary was very poor. It took scoreboard pressure to drag them kicking and screaming to give us some credit.
The 50mt penalty conceded by Lewis Young..We have to be better than that.

Our backline. My Saints mate texted me that our backline was a ring of steel and that my NSW premier could learn from that.
Our bottom six played pretty well
Weightman. The the media will focus on his free kicks and goals, but he did a whole lot of other good stuff defensively.
Anchors
The Channel 7 commentary team. Stupid, biased reptiles
Two unnecessary 50 m penalties given away.
Our forward entries and the connection between the forwards and the midfield and the midfield is still not very flash
The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride.

I thought our big men played well in the wet.
A few times we panicked with that last possession in the chain.
Also not a fan of the commentators.
Bankers, real fans, on a pretty chilly day, not empty stands and canned cheering.

- The defensive group as a whole. Our runners in Dale, Duryea and Williams all had great games. Wood was rock solid and panic free (kudos for turning it around) and the big guys were stonewalls in the air.
- The mid group finally clicking into gear. That 3rd quarter was clearly a turning of the tide. No easy ball for the opposition, constant tackle pressure in close and eventually it just went our way. It was the sort of effort that had been missing for 3 weeks.
- Naughts. Was up against a good player in Ridley but kept presenting, kept bringing the ball down and was a menace with his pressure. Good job big fella.
A
- The first half was pretty bad overall and against a good side, would have probably been terminal. Beyond that though, not much to knock given we turned things around.
- Special mention to Chris Johnson whose son happens to be on the Essendon list. Most commentators are cooked these days, but he took the cake. Every comment was Essendon biased so it was sweet to jam it in his face and pile on a good win in the end.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Funny, ring of steel. The Hun will read that on here and use it, you watch.
And nice to see Rutten give credit where it was due to Cody. Someone once said "Whatever it takes". Can't seem to remember who....

His direct opponent looked to only be a few steps away. Thought so long as you were tracking your opponent and within 5m that’d fly. They seem to have shifted a bit on what constitutes a 50m penalty a few times across the season.
