Bankers & Anchors: Semi Final, 2021 vs Brisbane

This is the Semi Final 2021 edition of the weekly Bankers and Anchors thread. Once the game against Brisbane is concluded post your nominations for:

The Bankers = 3 guys/aspects of the game that we banked on to do the right thing during the game
The Anchors = 3 guys/aspects of the game that weighed us down by their errors or poor play

Please limit it to no more than three of each player or aspect of the game, but feel free to make honourable/dishonourable mentions. As usual try to make it constructive criticism.

Try and restrict it to individual players rather than aspects of the overall match - I will allow more freedom now as the thread seems to be going down more of the aspects of the game path so you can have 3 for each made up of aspects of the game and individual players.

The thread is named in honour of a popular WOOF Contributor, The Banker, who passed away on 22/04/2012 after a six month battle with cancer.

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Semi Final, 2021 vs Brisbane

I’m doing a special edition, Banchors.

Schache. Quiet, a poor turnover. Kicks a goal, a good shepherd on the line to get through one for Smith
Smith. Some really, really bad things that could’ve got us. Gut run all night, 3 Goals in a one point game
Dunks. Not a massive game. A huge smoother to set the tone in the last part of the last quarter
English. Provided a target, rucked, did what he needed to do.
Hannan. Not a great game stat wise. A set shot from 50 a thing of beauty.
VDM. Crap night and probably gets dropped, but we needed a toe poke and he delivered.

We learned how to play the last minute, from the Geelong loss, so maybe it was worth losing. JJ marshalled Naughton to defence and we went for repeat stoppages along the line.

The rest of you can bank and anch.

    Banker

Duryea - killed the last play when he was one out on the most dangerous player on the ground. Incredibly good player in a no fuss package and it's a shame we didn't sign any more Hawthorn players from their peak period.

Bontempelli - consistently backs into packs and gets to both ends of the ground. Really leads us now.

Naughton - didn't really feel like he was able to get into the game much but continued working hard. Crunched Robinson when he needed to crunch him and clunked a massive get out mark when it had to be clunked.

    Anchor

Dale - played much better in the last quarter but looked awful the rest of the night.

Treloar - must be injured or unfit. Just not involved at all

I noticed that too - very clever. A move like that might have saved the Cats game.

    Bankers
Jack Macrae, never waivered with his determination and skill from the first bounce.
Bailey Smith, the 20yo had a great game and sealed it for us with a brilliant left foot goal.
Tom Liberatore, 2 invaluable goals, hard as nails all game this bloke.

    Anchors
NONE, a great team win under difficult quarantine and travel circumstances.

That was leadership, which we don’t often think of with JJ, but that was fine work.

    B:
Jacko - love that he kicked a goal. Huge game. The Nator…. Unstoppable.

Smith - knows where the sticks are. More time in the front half for him where his speed works, his foot skills / decision making are more effective / less risky. Well played young man. Ripper.

Duryea / Keath - joint Bankers. Dependable. No fuss. Fight for everything. Legends.

    Bankers

    1. Smith's three goals were very handy
    2. VDM's winning behind
    3. Tim English, tried his guts out in the ruck against atop ruckman
    4. Doc for saving the game, and Caleb kicking the ball to Roarke to kill it.

    Anchors

Luke Darcy demeaning of Caleb Daniel by calling him the little man - sick of it

    Bankers
Tim Englsh - fought hard all night.
Libba with those two goals to get us going.
    Our backline - incredible effort.

In the spirit of sportsmanship I will nominate Chris Fagan as a Banker.

Bevo says "We were down and fought back, as did Brisbane. I saw Chris Fagan on the boundary line at the end. Sometimes this game is really cruel and sometimes it's beautiful. We were the lucky ones to feel the emotions of the latter."
He's done a brilliant job at Brisbane. They gave a great contest. Seeing Fagan's emotions at the end of the game, can only feel for him.

    Anchors
    Set shots, just cruel.

I’m feeling it too much to do a real post but shout out Easton Wood. From more or less retired at QT to a clean sheet afterwards, he’s still got it.

    Bankers
    1. English- there's a good ruckman in there. He had more hitouts to adv than McInerney. Really stood up for us when Young was getting thrashed

2 . Bailey Smith. I was critical of his game during the night but he kept showing up. Ended up with 3 snags. He always takes ground as well which is huge in finals.

    3. Duryea. Went to Cameron who looked like tearing the game apart after kicking 3 goals in the 1st on Wood. He kept him goalless. Mind you I thought Wood was a bit stiff with the way the ball fell to Charlie's advantage every time.

    Anchors

    1. Injuries. I pray the Bont is OK and also hope we can get Flea ticked off and right to play.

    2. Not being at that game. F you covid

    3. Treloar he had a stinker for his standards. I was happy to see him keep laying tackles when the ball wasn't coming to him.
They've done studies you know, 60% of the time, it works every time!

    Bankers

Defence in total and Doc and Keath in particular

    Mids, Libba, Smith and Macca

English did better in the ruck than I expected

    Anchors

    What is up with Treloar?

Some of our bottom 6 did not have a great night eg Young and VDM but we do not really have many options to replace them

    Usual shit Ch7 commentary

Re: Bankers & Anchors: Semi Final, 2021 vs Brisbane

    Bankers

Macrae - did not stop all night
    Our backline
Bailey Smith/Hunter - for their run and carry in the last quarter

    Anchor

Treloar - he will be embarrassed
Possible injuries to Bont & Flea
Opp supporters/trolls complaining on SM we are favoured by the umps. Taking away from a fantastic victory.

If it was some other players it would be getting a lot more attention.
