    Best 22 for 2022

Fox footy has come up with their best Bulldogs 22 for the 2022 season. How close do you think it might be?

    WESTERN BULLDOGS

B: Taylor Duryea, Alex Keath, Bailey Williams

HB: Caleb Daniel, Zaine Cordy, Bailey Dale

C: Bailey Smith, Tom Liberatore, Adam Treloar

HF: Mitch Hannan, Aaron Naughton, Laitham Vandermeer

F: Cody Weightman, Tim English, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

FOLL: Stefan Martin, Marcus Bontempelli, Jack Macrae

I/C: Lachie Hunter, Easton Wood, Josh Dunkley, Jason Johannisen

    WE SAY:
Not much changes from their grand final line-up with Josh Schache the only one making way as Jamarra Ugle-Hagan takes his place in the 22 with another pre-season under his belt. Stefan Martin wants to go around again and sounds like he’ll get another contract. They’ll have to make do without Josh Bruce and Toby McLean for most of next year, though, after both players suffered ACL injuries late in the 2021 season. They were up by 19 points halfway through the third quarter of the grand final, so they did a lot right this year and should be confident of being in the premiership mix again in 2022. With the likes of Tim O’Brien, Ryan Gardner, Hayden Crozier, Ed Richards, Rhylee West, Lachie McNeil, Jordon Sweet, Anthony Scott and Mitch Wallis on the list too, depth won’t be an issue for the runners-up; Luke Beveridge used an AFL-high 41 players in 2021.

LVDM and Gardner should've been in the GF team.

No McNeil it's hard to take seriously

Schache isn't in my best team but he did really well when it mattered.

Gardner for Cordy (preference over expectation) and TOB plays because we don't recruit players unless we plan to play them. So probably Wood misses out

    For me it is:

B: Taylor Duryea, Ryan Gardner, Bailey Williams

HB: Caleb Daniel, Alex Keath, Bailey Dale

C: Bailey Smith, Tom Liberatore, Lachie Hunter

HF: Laitham Vandermeer, Josh Schache, Adam Treloar

F: Cody Weightman, Aaron Naughton, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan

FOLL: Tim English, Marcus Bontempelli, Jack Macrae

I/C: Tim O’Brien, Josh Dunkley, Ed Richards, Jordan Sweet

I would be surprised if Wood plays more than a dozen games next year. I guess the club has his place covered in terms of O'Brien and Schache as that intercepting defender. Also there is Hayden Crozier and Ed Richards who can play off halfback.

Wood will be good to have around the club with his leadership and developing the younger players.

Looks pretty good to me, though I’d have Sweet as #1 ruck, English forward and Schache on the bench as a utility. Would probably have Roarke on the wing and take Richards out from the 22.

That full forward line is going to create massive headaches in a few years time.

Not keen on the Fox Footy team, especially the backline as we can't show up with the one we had in the GF and expect it will get it done.

Whilst the names in the midfield look good I'm very keen to see a change in mindset in how that groups play and their individual roles... we can't continue to play ''shoot out'' footy in there so looking for roles to be redefined/ altered.

Was that before we signed Tim O'Brien?
Absolutely no way we sign a FA on a multi-year deal who isn't part of our plans for next season.

I suspect he plays as the interceptor with Gardner/Cordy fighting it out for the no 2 KPD spot.

Yeah ... agree with this. We need more than one (Dunkley) run with player to negate the "last ten minutes of the third quarter' type situations. (Not saying that was what Dunkley's role was in that period, but he has played that role successfully in the lead up to the GF.

    Re: Best 22 for 2022

Based on his pre-season I have Marra in our round 1 side now (I probably wouldn't have a few weeks ago).
I don't think we can really shape the round 1 team until we know how much masking tape Martin has on his body. I think any games he plays is a bonus and I wouldn't be surprised to see English as the sole ruck in round 1. The pre-season games will tell us a lot.

Sweet should be our R1 ruckman.
