One one hand I'm disappointed to lose Morris Dalton, on the other I kinda feel that she was just not developing as we'd have liked. Moody and Newton playing as permanent key forwards made her a little redundant.

I was just thinking this morning that we have done well to keep our list together - no significant additions, but also none of the losses we typically deal with.

I agree that Nell never quite hit her straps although the Moody/Newton (and before that Toogood and Huntington) did make it hard for her. Good luck at the Pies.

Pick 15 for Morris-Dalton is a good deal.

I heard her interviewed on the Danny Boyd podcast last year and she didn't sound enthusiastic about her relationship with Burkey. And watching her play, she appeared disinterested.

It is a compromised draft so pick 15 doesn't mean too much. But it's fair compensation.

Collingwood also had picks 13 and 14 in this weak draft so it's a bit disappointing to not have got one of them instead.

Sydney handing Geelong pick 1 for a player they could have got a couple of weeks ago without having to trade also weakens our hand amongst the Victorian crop. Will these northern clubs stop strengthening the Geelong Football Club!

Unsurprising that Ling and Strachan were delisted. The former despite being a fairly high pick from a couple of years ago struggled the times I saw her.

Premiership Dog returns to the Kennel in a brand new role



PREMIERSHIP Bulldog Nicky Callinan is back at Whitten Oval in a newly devised role, encompassing both AFLW player development and girls' talent pathway.

The 40-year-old was an inaugural Bulldogs player, recording 24 games from 2017-2020, and didn’t miss a game in the first two seasons.

Upon retirement, she spent time at St Kilda as a development coach, before moving to Carlton in 2022 as an assistant coach and VFLW player.The full-time role will see Callinan work closely with AFLW players, select VFLW players and coach the club's girls' Next Generation Academy program.



"I’m so excited about this new opportunity to work in the player development space, which is something I’m so passionate about – it’s a bonus that I get to come back home to the Kennel too," Callinan said.
"I’m so grateful for my time at both the Saints and Carlton, which have helped my own development journey. There are so many things I’ve experienced along the way, and amazing people I’ve worked with that have helped me get to this point in my career.



"Hopefully I can use what I’ve learnt over the past few years to further develop the AFLW Pups, and also the up-and-coming talent coming through."

The Western Bulldogs have selected Dominique Carruthers with pick 11 in the 2023 AFLW Season Eight Supplementary Draft.
Carruthers, a hardworking midfielder and a tough competitor, was added to the Bulldogs’ VFLW list this season.
The 27-year-old is rarely second to the ball, with accumulation and work-rate some of her biggest strengths.
She was previously a train-on player for both Sydney Swans and GWS, and played 74 games across both North Shore Bombers (2017, 2020-22) and Macquarie University (2018-19) in the AFL Sydney women’s league.
