    Well AFL still tinkering:

    Rule changes for new season

AFLW matches will be longer and interchanges will be capped at 60 per game as part of four rule changes introduced ahead of the 2023 season.
In short, the four rule changes are:

    • Quarters extended by two minutes
    • Interchanges capped at 60 per game
    • Boundary throw-ins to take place from the boundary inside the 50m arcs
    • Runners can only enter the field three times per quarter, plus after goals
    FFC: Established 1883

    Premierships: AFL 1954, 2016 VFA - 1898,99,1900, 1908, 1913, 1919-20, 1923-24, VFL: 2014, 2016 . Champions of Victoria 1924. AFLW - 2018.

Happy they have extended quarters & boundary throw ins from boundary if within 50m arc.

Agree throwing the ball in near the goals was such a stupid idea.

I don't understand why we have to change the game. AFLW and AFLM should just have the same rules.

the only difference should be the women's games the ground should be shorter.

    Any reasoning for this?

Less rotations and less opportunity for runners going on field? So...you don’t get to talk to the players on the phone cos they can’t come off, and you can’t send out the runner and you can’t call time out?

And we are talking about a comp where most teams have less than 10 players who have played more than 200 game since of footy in their entire lives...

Oh yeah. Makes perfect sense. Perfect.
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

    Re: Aflw 2022/2023

I went and had a look today. There are a few excuses/reasons for the loss. We really missed Edmonds in the ruck and our defence without Lynch and E. Brown was short and lacking in class. Didn't help that M. Brown injured her knee in the warm up. Blackburn injured her thigh in the second quarter but we were already five goals down.

Even considering these factors it was a sobering and very disappointing performance and we were totally out classed all over the field. It really did look like girls against women in terms of skill and physicality. With our backline under constant siege, I thought Grant shined with numerous desperate efforts.

How are we feeling? On paper I'd be picking the cats...Berry, Elsa, Rocky and Gutknecht all had moments of importance last year and their replacements are generally young or inexperienced.

Pritchard named in the ruck has surprised me, after Edmonds was near AA last year.

    Absolutely stacked interchange bench.

Ignore that interchange bench Jazza. That's basically our 5 best players including 2 rucks!

Lynch and Grant did well as key backs last year. As did Pritchard on the wing. Hartwig kicked 3 in the practice match so she could play forward. Coyne and Wilcox had strong first seasons and should kick on.

Time for high draft picks, Newton and Fitzgerald to take the next step.

Without knowing anything of the other teams, i think we're a real chance for top 6.

I thought Gabby was really good last year as a key forward. Agree that we need Fitzy to step up and be a consistent force beside Ellie and Lamby.

Big fan of Katie Lynch last season, and Issy Grant definitely took some big strides - I heard she'd had a strong pre season in defence so was surprised she was named CHF.

Rylie Wilcox is almost our most exciting player, love her speed and skill.
