Well if we're continuing our avant garde approach to defence and letting other teams play keepings off for at least 10 straight minutes every quarter maybe pressure acts are more valuable than actually being good.

Where does Duryea fit in for us next season? Good player no doubt but he isn't getting on the ground enough for my liking.
Last year he was sensational but the other 3 years he has only played 28 games for us.
Should we offer him another deal?

I think we've ascended beyond being good.

I guess it depends on if we can find a suitable replacement. Will Cleary improve to fill that void? Can we recruit someone to step into that role? On paper it should be one of the easier roles to fill with a state league rookie or late pick.

If we don't have anyone to replace him do we have another option than to give him one more year and hope he can teach the likes or Cleary the tricks of the trade?

The most important ability is AVAILABILITY...he never plays.

I think my love for Duryea is well known but if you are 30+, constantly injured and out of contract, doesn't that spell trouble? I'm sure he would want to go around again (it isn't that easy earning $400K outside of the AFL) but why would we give it to him?
What should I tell her? She's going to ask.

I guess the challenge is that he played 25 games last year and do we seem his injuries this year more or less as some bad luck?
As much as I rate him I'm prepared to look at some other players to replace him.
Dale, Daniel and Richards are our attacking defenders and maybe Cleary, Williams, Crozier, Hannan and someone out of left field like Garcia are the back-ups.

I don't see that we need Rowe, we have enough small forwards - West, Vandermeer, Garcia, McLean, Scott & Jones. Also pass on Lobb, ex plastics dh - our real need is 2 KPD's and , given our blind reluctance to even give Sweet a fair go, an established ruck. Imo opinion Cleary can replace Duryea.

Not sure the guys you listed are legit, specialist small forwards.

West I hope would push for midfield minutes in 2023.
    VDM is injury prone
    Garcia is injury prone.
McLean may not be on the list in 2023 and if he is, surely it is as a defensive midfielder
Scott is still recovering from concussion and he seems to be better suited as a wingman.

People I know that follow the Crows are happy for us to take Rowe.

Not sure why we are interested.

None of those players you mentioned are actually small forwards though, they're re-purposed mids.
Cleary is promising but in no way a small-lock down a defender. More a mid-sized interceptor

Duryea should get a one year deal.

It's not that I would be disappointed if he was on this list next season, he's a good player when available, but is a 13 games a season average with us good enough to trigger a one year deal?
